Anybody know what and when it was? I'm thinking that maybe it was one of the Buck Owens songs, but I have no idea.

A long shot here, but I'll say something by Charlie McCoy. MAYBE, Today I Started Loving You Again, seems that was his biggest hit.

Maybe Floyd Cramer's 'Last Date', or am I way off here?

Buckaroo ?

Sleepwalk ?

In bluegrass music just about every artist features at least one instrumental per album/CD. It's very rare in country music and practically nonexistent in recent times. I miss instrumentals. Think I'll go listen to an old Ventures record!

Terry, if you like pedal steel...and the Ventures, get ahold of the old Ventures' record called "Blue Star". It was the first recording made featuring steeler Sneaky Pete Kleinow!

I too love instrumentals. My favorites are:
Ace Cannon, Floyd Cramer, Charlie McCoy, Red Rhodes, Bill Justice, Grady Martin, Billy Hutch, Tommy Garrett, Chet Atkins, The Magic Organ,101 Strings,The Ventures, Leo Kottke, Herb Alpert, Al Hirt, & anything on steel. Did I miss any? They also seem to get the best musicians to join in on their albums.

You forgot the one guy with the most top 40 instrumentals ever.... Duane Eddie!! His instrumentals where on the pop and country charts, with the last one he had on the country charts was "You are my Sunshine" in 1975.

Have you guys noticed that Brad Paisley has done instrumentals on all three of his albums? Even does them live. Only mainstream guy that I know of that has done that. Way cool stuff, some great steel too.

I don't have a clue when the last instrumental hit was, betcha it was before I was born (1978).

You're right I forgot Duane Eddy. Also Ennio Morricone music, Blue Stingrays, Aqua Velvets, Dick Dale, The Pyramids, The Shadows, The Astronauts, The Ramrods, The Champs, Phil Upchurch, Johnny & the Hurricanes, Mel "Pigue" Robbins, Kelso Herston, Rink Hardin, Bobby Bond, and esquivel.
What about the hit "Popcorn" in the 70's? Maybe a Disco hit from the late 70's or 80's.
Oops, sorry i forgot the question was country instrumental. What about "Last Date" by Floyd Cramer?

This will in all likelihood never be a hit, but possibly the most recent instrumental released on a CD is my tune "Cicada Afternoon". There is an MP3 sample at the web site: http://www.members.shaw.ca/DirtyHatBand/

David Cobb's answer of "Dueling Banjos" might be the closest so far

I don't know about country, but weren't there a lot of disco instrumental hits? I can't really remember, since I was drunk during the Disco/Reagan years

I'd say it was probably "Yakety Axe" by Chet Atkins. It did make it into the top 10 as I recall..........Have a good 'un, JH

MUNSTER RAG- Brad Paisley! Used to start the Opry theme. Yes I know it's new and alot of you out there don't like that new stuff. It's on his Part II C.D. Same CD that Wrapped Around is on. In 30 years it will be old ,them some one will like it. Joe
