Loretta Lynn had the song "Don't Come Home Drinking With Loving On Your Mind" I believe in the top 5. Who was the steeler playing the ShoBud? It never showed his face from what I can remember. As far as the top 40 songs goes, I have never drank and probably never will, but I always hated the #1 song Garth Brooks had out,"Friends In Low Places". I just wonder who the people are who vote on this kind of material. Like it was stated there was no Moe Bandy, Gary Stewart, Ray Price or some other great country stars.

RAY PRICES "SITTIN AND DRINKING" not among the top 40. Was wine me up by Faron? Any how where do they get the same common"taters" for each of their supposedly accurate shows? That curly haired expert from the CMA belongs in Greenwich Village.

Paul,
The steeler in the Loretta Lynn clip was the great Hal Rugg. The clip was taken from the old Wilburn Brothers TV show. Jason

I'm not an expert, I just listen to a
lot of traditional country music. (between the twenties to the seventies)
You can find copies of traditional music
at the library. As for the eighties up to the present, if I want to hear rock,
I liston to Aerosmith, Little Feat, and Mountain Etc.
It doesn't mean I'm right,
and everyone else is wrong.
It's just the way I hear it.

Willie Nelson didn't have the hit on Whiskey River,Johnny Bush did and he wrote it too...he was never mentioned...I think they compose those shows according to the video clips they have on file...Gary Stewart's"She's Actin' Single(I'm Drinkin'Doubles)was a #1 record,"Drinkin'Thing"was a top 10 record...there are a lot of drinking songs that were hits that should have been mentioned..."Here I am Drunk Again"by Moe Bandy...hit record...I guess they have to have songs teenage girls have heard..."Wine Me Up"...I can think of hundreds...

I think my #1 would have to be "There Stands the Glass". Maybe somebody else recorded it too, but I always think of it as a Johnny Bush tune. He had alot of good ones, imho... "Warmth of the Wine", etc. The Swingingest Award goes to "What a Way To Live" (who is that drummer, anyway? wow).

Aside from Bush, one of my favourites is "Wake up and Smell the Whiskey", featuring on steel...well..... the author of this thread!

I saw that show and couldn't believe how inept it was. No research what so ever. for example one of my favorite drinkin songs was the "B" side of pop a top by jim ed brown here are some of the words
gasping for air I come up from your lips
amazed at the beauty at my finger tips
she left me cripple but i found my crutch
bottle bottle why do i love you so much...

these people need to get a grip on country music marketing and stop lettin these unknowing yougins control a market

oh and hey Wynonna...might I suggest the atkins diet

And speaking of drinking;

The Buffalo Theory:

A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back of the herd that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we all know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that is why you always feel smarter and your steel guitar playing seems to improve after a few beers!

I remember a great song by Jim Ed Brown that had the line, "Put a nipple on my bottle, bartender". Always loved that one. Probably was never a hit. Most of my favorite songs were filler tunes on the albums.

Another Gary Stewart tune is Whiskey Trip. Also don't forget What Made Milwaukee Famous. A good Johnny Bush tune is Green Snakes On The Ceiling, how about Barstool Mountain, Colorado Cool-Aid, Asleep At The Wheel had The Letter That Johnny Walker Read,
Wine Friend Of Mine.
I'll have to think on this and come back later.

"I'm Gonna Build Me A Bar In the Back Of My Car And Drive Myself To Drink".

Nobody got around to writing that song..but I think is was Lefty that ended one with it.

Jones.."You're Still On My Mind" and "Just One More".

Steve Hinson played lead guitar for ol George for I think about six years. Best one he had. He's a string benden son of a gun. No B String Bender, just his fingers.

Steve, did George ever do any of those old songs when you played with him?
