Can anyone tell me who did the song "Play me the waltz of the Angels" Besides the "Derailers" love thier versin w/ Buck Owens but,Im sure I heard the song before. Dont care if this type of song is "popular" or not these days.Ill play em' til I cant play any more!  ------------------ |

Larry, There was a song called "waltz of the angels" that came out in the late forties or early 50's. I believe a guy named Clyde Moody was the singer. I could be wrong about the singer. I agree it is a great song--wish I could remember the words--I once knew them. I guess I could get it off Buck's recording. Sorry, I misread the title of the song, the only version that comes up on allmusic.com is the one you referenced in your post, and its on the Derailers "Full Western Dress". Larry, I believe Wynn Stewart cut Waltz of the Angels first...then maybe Lefty. The Derailers tune is different in that it refers to the original tune via the instrumental and the request to "Play me the Waltz of the Angels and I'll Close My Eyes and Pretend." Both songs are great though. JO |

My Uncle had Lefty Frizzell's recording of this on a red labeled, Columbia 78. I was too young to read at the time, so I took a blue crayon and marked the sides of his records that I liked. "Waltz of the Angels" was one of those and is the 1st country music recording that I can remember listening too. (my Uncle never got upset with me for coloring on his records either). I still believe it is a beautiful song! I am going to find The Derailers "Play Waltz Of The Angels Again" and give it a listen. I rememeber this being discussed a few months back. Yes, "Plat Me The Waltz of The Angels" by the Derailers is a song about the song. Yes Buck did play guitar on the Wynn version. And buck sang on the Derailer version also. |
