I finally got me a copy of Tammy Wynette's tune "Apartment No. 9" on a collection CD, but No Credits to the musicians appear in the liner notes anywhere.

Who did that steel? Every time the tune starts I can't practice to it 'cause it just blows me away...

Ray,
If my memory serves me correctly, I believe it was Pete Drake. I'll ask Lloyd

The best version and I think it's the original was by Bobby Austin on Capitol and featured great playing by my hero Ralph Mooney....Have a good 'un, JH

I think the song was co-written by Johnny Paycheck and Bobby Austin. Johnny did a great version for Little Darlin' Records with Lloyd G on Steel.

Kind Regards, Walter

Johnny Bush did an awesome version in the late 60's with Jimmy Day playing a classic solo. Just FYI.

Lloyd said it "was indeed Pete Drake" on Tammy's record. Thanks Lloyd!

Thanks to all for the info.

When I got the CD, I immediately put it into the CD player in my pickup truck. Listened to the tune, I wont say how many times, during my hour drive home.

Truly awesome steel. My sincere thanks for this bit of musical history and entertainment Mr. Drake.

All times are Pacific (US)
