British Stomper Time Records ( www.stompertime.com ) has released a great 42 song DVD of the classic Ranch Party-tv shows. This is the same stuff that has been floatin' around on questionable video releases. These are claimed to come from the original kinescope material, and the picture quality on most of the tracks is indeed really good. Few tracks are kinda fuzzy though, but I can forgive that, especially when I saw Marian Hall soloing on her Bigsby-steel on fast and furious "Town Hall Boogie". Classic material by George Jones, Jim Reeves, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Skeets McDonald, Patsy Cline and many others.

This is great news for me. I've had one of those "questionable video releases" for about 20 years now and it's not gettin' any better.
Are the DVD's the whole shows or just clips? The video I have has 10 complete shows on it.

Jussi -
One track on the DVD is New Panhandle Rag, by Les Anderson.
1) My experience with this tune is as a vocal. Is Les playing steel guitar on this track, or spanish guitar, or no guitar at all?
2) Does Les appear playing steel in any of the other artists' selections?

Bryan, Les sings the tune, Marian Hall plays steel on it. She was the Ranch Party house steel player and does all the steel backing on this disc. I don't think Les ever played any steel on these shows, I've seen a lot of them and never seen him doing it.
Alvin, these are individual tracks from various shows.

I thought that might be the case. I knew that Les dropped the steel to become a vocalist during that era. Interestingly, he maintained an interest in, and continued playing the steel guitar right to the end of his life.

Jussi - Thanks for the heads up. Trying to watch my old 5th generation tapes has caused my eyesight to go bad (at least I think that's the reason ). This is a good value for some great historic TV shows (and the inspiration for my own song called "Ranch Party"). - Tim
