![]() Jeff Healey is a Toronto cat, who has a wide and varied taste in music, from rock to vintage jazz. Although primarily noted for his guitar work (he's blind, and plays it flat on his knee) as well as his radio show "My kind of jazz" which features jazz of the 20's vintage, he is currently leading a group called the "Jazz Wizards", playing trumpet. -John |

![]() Yep, I had just dug out an Aug. '89 copy of GP and was re-reading the article and interview on Jeff. Dynamite Blues picker. Blinded by eye cancer in his infancy. Knocked aroung Toronto playing jazz, reggae, country, metal but focused more on R&B. Got his first axe at 3 yrs. old. Started out using a slide [there's that word again], in open tuning 'til someone taught him taught him standard tuning, and he learned to play with it lying on his lap. He's also been known to play a double neck standing, but reaching over the neck(s) same as he did with it on his lap. Anybody hear anything about him lately? [Nevermind, I see John has an update in his post,] [This message was edited by Jerry Overstreet on 13 July 2004 at 02:04 PM.] |

![]() Jeff now owns a night club in Toronto. He's not a Steeler, he's a Blues/Rock guitarist, with a passion for older Jazz. His favorite records are a collection of Louie Armstrong 78s. moving to MUSIC |

![]() Actually, Eric, John Hiatt wrote "Angel Eyes." Healey did an incredible job with it, though, as did John Cowan. Healey's also a pretty good actor, appearing in the movie "Roadhouse," portraying a--blind blues player! Did a real good job, and according to a :Guitar Player" interview, kept the cast and crew entertained between takes, playing blues covers. GREAT musician. |

![]() It was mentioned before that he plays like Thumbs Carlisle with one exception, Jeff plays in standard tuning where Thumbs used an open E or somewhere close to that. Have a good 'un.......JH ------------------ [This message was edited by Jerry Hayes on 14 July 2004 at 04:15 AM.] |

![]() I was at the Iridium Jazz Club in NYC one Monday night about 4 years ago, listening to the Les Paul Trio. Towards the end of the first set, a considerable stir went through the audidence when Les's son came up to the stage hauling a tweed covered Fender amp to the stage, and they announced a special guest star would soon come up to join in, none other than Jeff Healey from Toronto. He then proceeded to play a blistering 90-minute set with Les Paul and the trio, he also played coronet and sang. It was phenominal. One of the best 90 minutes I've ever seen or heard. He did all the bluesy stuff you'd expect from him, but his voice and coronet playing were great as well. And he played great on the standards that Les Paul does too. If I'd have known he was going to be there, I'd have paid double to get in - but I got in for the normal price, and stayed for both shows...
