What other old rock/pop songs had steel?
Not Country-rock (aka NRPS, or Burritos et) - just thing classified as rock
I can think of a couple more
- Teach your Children - CSN
- Tiny Dancer - Elton John

Hey Leslie, that steel player was a 14 or 15 year old kid named Paul Franklin. What ever happened to him?

While this may not qualify as 'oldie' records, I think Greg Leisz did some very tasteful steel work with Joni Mitchell in the '90s.

Does anyone know who played steel on Joe Cocker's version of the Beatles song "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window"?

Chris, do a search on the forum for Eagles and PSG. There's been lots of disucssion on the topic. Don Felder plays PSG on the "Hell Freezes Over" DVD. The Eagles even toured with a steeler in the old days (pre Joe Walsh).

Several of the early Bee Gees songs ("Nights on Broadway") had pedal steel by Alan Kendall (and Sneaky Pete on some recordings as well). Sneaky Pete did a great job on a duet with Stevie Wonder on his song "Too Shy to Say" as well as a hot solo on Frank Zappa's "It Just Might Be A One Shot Deal". And don't forget B.J. Cole's tasteful steel on the first couple of Elton John records ("Tiny Dancer", for example).

The Eagles do a version of "ol' 55" on the album "On the Border". I think Al Perkins plays PSG on that cut. Really great version of that tune!

"The Boxer" by Simon & Garfunkle - I think it was Curly Chalker. And "Angel of the Morning" by Merrilee Rush I read awhile back had Bobbe Seymour on it - that one I haven't heard for so may years I can't remember it myself.

"South City Midnight Lady" by the Doobie Brothers. The steel player was Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, who played on the previously-mentioned Steely Dan songs and "Razor Boy."

Bobbe Seymour also played on the classic live album by Judas Priest, "Unleashed in the East".
This is not a typo, I asked him about it and he confirmed.
Wow.....

Was it Johnny Nash? I'm not sure.
