When EmmyLou Harris had her famous "Hot Band" she always featured her guitarists more than just about any artist of her time. I remember those great James Burton things and then later Albert Lee. I think the last guitarist in the hot band was Frank Rekard who played a Les Paul junior or something like that and even had a B-Bender on the thing. Does anyone know what ever happened to him? I haven't heard anything about him since he was with EmmyLou. Is he still around and playing? I have an Austin City Limits tape of ELH with Frank on guitar and he nails it down tight....Have a good 'un..JH

Back in the 80's Emmy Lou came to the phoenix theater in Petaluma CA. doing a live album.

I went with the late Kieth Allen, (Great picker!)we were really looking forward to
hearing Albert lee do those great solos from her earlier records. We were disapointed to see that Albert had been replaced by Frank Rekard...til he started COOKIN'.

He was AWESOME..I even went back the next night with my Wife and 2 of my children.

Yeah, he was a little bitty guy but he got bigger the more he played that guitar. Donny, do you remember a west coast guitarist named Bob Warford. He also went to law school and is a practicing lawyer. He played for Linda Ronstadt among others and is one of the premier players of the Parsons/White equipped Telecaster....JH

Emmylou with James Burton and Bob Warford on guitar.
Bob Warford is another Hotband guitar picker turned lawyer.

Frank Rekard lives and works as a lawyer in Santa Fe New Mexico. He still does some weekend gigs periodically although not lately. I have had a few occasions to do gigs with him and he is as hot as ever, although it has been a while. He is a great guitar player.

Well, there was Frank's band Mojave which cut a record for the German based Taxim label in the mid 1990s.

Bob Warford played on the last Hillman, Rice, Rice and Pederson CD on Rounder records a few years back, plus he still gigs now and then, but the law is his thing.

I believe Frank also was also the lead player for legendary Santa Cruz singer Larry Hosford who recorded some great steel and lead albums in the early seventies. Remember "Women Got Me Swimmin"?

Sigh... Emmy Lou is looking purty in that photo, ain't she boys? Takes me back a few years. I've never met her, but she must be a tall woman, to wear that J200 so well... that's a BIG guitar!

She's a class act.

Ahhh Emmylou...

She's actually pretty petite. I'd guess 5'3" or so. This from seeing her from a distance of 25 ft or so.

FWIW...

In the early 90's, I was working at the Barn in Sanford Fl. I literally bumped into her in the hallway and she seemed taller than 5'3". She sure looked good face to face. She put on a great show too.

My daughter and I went into the restaurant next to the Motel that Emmy Lou and her band were staying in Rohnert Park,,Ca., the morning after the concert in Petaluma.

Emmy Lou was sitting down but didn't look too tall to me....My daughter had her high school yearbook with her and went up to her and handed it to her...she told my daughter that she didn't go to school there,,then her friends at her table laughed and I guess she realized that my daughter kinda knew that.

She was very friendly and signed her yearbook.

If she's 5'3", then James Burton must be about 4'9".

Rick, it was shot from the floor,
with her right up front stage, and the guys 10 feet back or so.
A question of perspective.

I don't care HOW tall she is.
she's just fantastic.

Check out those legs........WOW!! Her hair's totally gray now but she still looks that good. I'd have liked to seen that concert with James Burton and Bob Warford both on lead, must've been some hot stuff goin' on there........ I never got to know him while I lived in SoCal but I saw Warford at Knott's Berry Farm once with Freddy Weller and he kicked some major league butt with his B-Bender Tele, one great player....JH
