What else can you say? "Once A Day" with Connie Smith...Area Code 615...the innmumeral sessions...the Moe Bandy years...the Opry... Truly a steelers-steeler!!!! Here's wishing you the best! Ricky... ------------------ |

Weldon Myrick is definitely one of my favorite steel players. I used to watch the Opry just to see him play. He was usually in the camera shot where they had him seated. My one goal is to see him play at a show and see him play a set live. |

Played on a steel show with Weldon a few years ago. Pure steel guitar playing. Tells some pretty good jokes to! |

Weldon! Can you say these three words? I'll Come Runnin' What else can you say? He probably played the hottest steel break ever in a chart song. |

Weldon played the Johnny Bush version of "Whiskey River". Some of the hottest licks you can hear from a steel player. |

I think "all my ex's" was actually PF. Mr. Myrick is one guy I would love to hear making a new recording of his playing - no gimmicks, effects, or concessions to current trends and sounds... just pure country steel... 'cause I think he's one of the best at that ! ------------------ |

I think that Weldon was the first "pedal Steel" player that I noticed . . . He did some work for Paul Sebiel back in the 70's. ------------------ |

Yes, Weldon played killer stuff on Paul Siebel`s "Woodsmoke and Oranges" album. It is available on one CD with his second album "Jack-Knife Gypsy" . On that second album the steel parts are by Mr. Emmons, including an extended fade out steel ride on a previously unreleased bonus track. HIGHLY recommended!! ------------------ [This message was edited by Olli Haavisto on 19 May 2005 at 08:44 AM.] |

Don't forget all the GREAT stuff he put on Moe Bandy's 70's albums. I've compiled an 80-minute CD with the best of Moe '73-'80, 32 cuts with Weldon on every single one, which never leaves the CD-changer in my car. "Tell ole I ain't here" with Moe & Joe has to be one of my absolute favorite steel intros. Hearing Weldon (and yes, Lloyd too) was what made me decide to take up steel playing in '77. BTW, he was outstanding with Gary Stewart as well - "I can't be your backdoor", "Hank Western", "In some room above the street"... |

Weldon was one of my earliest influences too. My parents wouldn't play anything but Gospel music, and in the late '60s and through the '70s, Weldon played on all the major Gospel records. My Dad did sneak a listen the Grand Ole Opry most Saturday nights, and of course Weldon was on there too. ------------------ |
