![]() OK Here's an odd one. We were just in the studio transferring some old LP's to CD when this BEST OF LP popped to the top of the stack. On "Crimson & Clover" it sounds like a steel is used in one part of the tune, about two thirds of the way thru it. Anybody know if they did in fact use one, like even a lap steel? |

![]() That is a pedal steel on Crimson and Clover played by their guitarist, Eddie Gray (Zgorecki) on an MSA. Eddie was never really a Steeler, but in those physicadellic daze you didn't have to be. The Shondells are from my (and b0b's) home state, Pennslyvania. |

![]() Joey, as a side note -- isn't it correct that the Shondells were never really a band, but were more like a revolving group of studio musicians/sidemen that Tommy James and/or his agent hired to either record or go on tour? I might be wrong about that, though. [This message was edited by Tom Olson on 26 August 2005 at 08:36 PM.] |

![]() They were a band, from 1965 to 70. see http://www.tsimon.com/shondell.htm I think Buddy Cage had a brief time with them, and Pete Drake, probably only on recordings. Someone else will have to provide those details, as I'm unsure. [This message was edited by Joey Ace on 27 August 2005 at 03:30 AM.] |

![]() I've noticed an error in the text of my above link. It says "Mony Mony" was inspired by a building in NYC. I'm sure it was actually Syracuse. The tallest building in Syracuse, at the time, had MONY in big letters at it's top. (Mutual Of New York) I remember it well, since I spent much time in the area when the song was popular. ![]() Hey, thanks fellas. It's actually been a 35 year old mystery to me. Mystery solved. Thanks again. |

![]() That's cool. I didn't know that. I use tremelo on my steel. It really is a cool effect in the right places. Although, I've never used it on vocals like Tommy James. |

![]() You call that "off-topic" ? I was wondering why "Crimson and Clover" is often listed along with the songs from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I'm pretty sure it was not in the movie, maybe it was in the theatre version ? |
