The saddest one for me is "Down To Seeds and Stems" - Commander Cody. I sing this one and I always get choked up when it comes to "Well, my dog died just yesterday and left me all alone."

I was just listening to an old song by Walter Brennen called Ole' Rivers and Me, or at least I think that was the name. The label has worn off from many years of use. May not be the saddest, but it could come close

Willie Roy, the Cripple Boy - Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper

A Mother's prayer - Blue Sky Boys?

The Grand Tour - George Jones

He Stopped Loving Her Today - George Jones

White Dove - Stanley Brothers

There Stands the Glass - Web Pierce

And of course, Down to Seeds and Stems Again.

What are we doing? This could go on and on. It's like asking which New Yorker walks the fastest, which coal in New Castle is blackest, which hill in San Francisco is the steepest, which Hollywood star has the best sun tan, which hound dog is the laziest, which section of the Mississippi River is the muddiest, which hill in Kentucky is the greenest, which woman has the most headaches...I better stop there.
