Does anyone know where to find the English lyrics to this song? Andy sings this song very fast, in The Hawaiian Language.

Amazing, Roger! I'd totally forgotten this song and your post jogged my memory.

I can't help with the lyrics, but I recorded a version of the song with the Bowles Brothers in London in 1977. Brian Bowles sang the Hawaiian words, simply ending the last line with '....Hawaiian cowboy'. I have no idea where the song comes from, or how they discovered it.

I used my ZB for the session, but the nearest thing anyone could come up with as an 'appropriate steel guitar' for the video was a Fender Stringmaster! The track appeared on an album entitled 'Roger Buys a Fridge' (!), and they paid me for an extra 'session' during which they photographed me pushing a 'fridge on a hand-truck around Camden Town; they said they wanted a 'real Roger' for the sleeve.

I must look for that LP - I bet I still have it somewhere....

Thanks for the reminder!

I think you're refering to "Hawaiian Cowboy" by Sol K Bright. Here are the Hawaiian lyrics with an English translation and a cute anecdote about the song: http://www.huapala.org/Hawaii/Hawaiian_Cowboy.html

I tried learning the Hawaiian lyrics, figuring it would be really cool to be able to sing at least a few verses. I finally gave up and only play it as an instrumental .

Thanks Gary. I might be wrong, but I think the liner notes of my CD listed Andy Bright as the singer.?? I'll check it out.
