I had an opportunity to see this GREAT band the other night at the Broken Spoke in Austin, TX. Talk about KILLER!! This band has a chemistry going on that many a band never ever achieve. They dress the part, play the part and sing the part---straight up professional. They DO NOT play any songs recorded after 1969. All straight up, nonwatered down country and honky-tonk music. Miss Leslie wearing a '60's dress, a 60's hair style, and stepping up to a cool OLD style microphone to sing and play fiddle. You can't help but think Patsy Cline!

The band carries an acoustic upright piano with them and mike it, as there were few, if any electric keyboards popular back then in country bands. The guitar is a blonde '59 reissue through a '65 Twin reissue; period correct drums; Fender bass is period correct. And most already know Ricky's LDG is right in there, too, through a Vibrosonic and a K130 JBL and an Altec 418B extension. And everyone NAILS the tone and NAILS the chops!

And Ricky rips off some of the honkiest tonkiest licks even crazy people can't even imagine! (The steel show people would do themselves AND us a HUGE favor getting Ricky on their stage!!"hint hint" )

Ricky sits up on stage sparring with the guitar player all night, whom dishes it right back out to Ricky! The the piano man cuts loose! Then Miss Leslie reals them all back in with her fiddle and beautiful voice! And that vintage honky tonk walking bass & drums to cement it all together! Ten minutes into the first set, you are remembering what you were doing back in the '60's----reminising(sp)

And Ricky sitting behind the LDG, grinnin' like a 'possum with the whole persimmon tree to himself!! Ask him how he likes playing with this band, and he will tell you something like "I feel like I'm at home with these folks, like destiny just happened!" AND HE PLAYS LIKE IT, TOO!!

Go see Ricky and Miss Leslie's band at "Ginny's Little Longhorn" tonight, Friday, March 31' 06 if you are in the area. They start at 9:00 P.M.
And Miss Leslie, I've logged about 12 hours already listening to your CD, which by the way can be found at: www.missleslie.com

Country the way it used to be...country the way it oughta' be!

I've said this before....I like good country music, although I'm not a big listener. I tend to listen to other genres of music most of the time.

This cd has been and still is on heavy rotation in my player. When I'm on the subway going to work, I'm listening to Miss Leslie, and as Ricky says...."ha!"

That is a fine group playing fine music. Sure would love to see them live.

For those who miss the old country, and don't care for what you hear on "new" country radio, here's your chance to support what you deep down love!

I'm sure that anything Ricky Davis is involved in is excellent. That band sounds real interesting as far as original sound. Great concept.

As I keep saying I've been raving about these folks since last summer.

Honkey tonk No More is the current track on my Myspace sight.

Thanks James for the Rave review.
Yes; I can't remember being this excited about playing music(well the first couple years with Dale Watson was exciting...ha); and this band is my dream gig> nothing but classic country from the 60's. I get to rip off the Great Lloyd Green and Weldon Myrick and Hal Rugg and Jimmy Day; as I try to do them justice with the style they played then; but I try to imagine the way they would of played it; if they were on Acid.. ..ha...and I go for that.
The "Honky Tonk Revival" CD of Miss Leslie & her Juke-Jointers is a good depiction of what we do....as I played on all tracks except the first two; and that was our friend Bill Howard.
BUT!!! and a big But...ha....To hear this Live is a WHOLE nother story; as compared to the CD...>what we do live is way beyond what was captured on CD; and for all the fans; guess what???? Yes; we are recording a LIVE CD at the Continental Club in Houston on:
Wednesday, April 19 7:00PM-1:00AM
LIVE CD RECORDING @ The Continental Club - Houston - Houston, TX (713) 529-9666
Be a part of the recording of "Honky Tonk Happy Hour - Live from the Continental Club"!! No cover! Drink Specials! Buffet! Free Stuff! Don't miss it!
So hang on to your hat....this will be LARGE....and we are very excited about it.
Thanks everyone for you support and we are trying our best to spread the feeling of REAL CLASSIC COUNTRY MUSIC; as it was originally played with those standards and our originals.
Ricky

Tim Marlin and I went to see them last night at the Continental Club in Houston. If you like traditional country music then this is the band for you. They were great and "Bobo's Boogie" was outstanding. We got to visit with Ricky Davis and get a look at the underside of his Sho-Bud to admire all the custom work he has done to it. Ricky was very cordial and did an outstanding job making that Sho-Bud sing. They play every Wednesday from 7:00-10:00, except for next Wednesday when the show will be 8:00-12:00 because they're doing a live recording.
