I heard this song once, fifteen years ago and now would like to work it up, but I have no words, chords or melody line, let alone an audio track.

Can anyone help with any of these?

I did find a high energy rock and roll version of it, but it bears no resemblence to the one in my head.

Is it the Wynn Stewart song?
http://www.luma-electronic.cz/lp/elpe.htm

This site has the lyrics to that one.

I went there but what I found was "I'll Never Forget", by Dolly Parton. Did I miss it?

I found mention of Red Allen or Frank Wakefield when I did a Yahoo Search. It seems to be the right period and genre.

Here is the Wynn Stewart song by that name.
Its off of his "Pretty World Today" lp.
I think I may have that one at home.

OL' WHAT'S HER NAME
(Fuzzy Owen)
« © '66 Owen Publications, BMI »

Well I'll admit that there've been lots of pretty girls I've known
There've been lots of Flosie Mae's and Mary Jane's
But there's one that stands out above the others
Oh I'll never forget ol' what's her name

Time can never drive her from my memory
No one else could ever mean so much to me
And ever since she went away my life ain't been the same
Oh I'll never forget ol' what's her name
[ guitar ]
When my old friends ask me what happened to her
I just smile and say I forgot her name
But deep inside I know they can't feel the pain
And I'll never forget ol' what's her name

Time can never drive her from my memory...

That fits in with my recollection. I'll revisit that site too. Thank you very much.

Gary,

You wouldn't be able to get it in MP3 format and attach it to an email?
