![]() I've been working hard on my ND gig all Summer, and I just booked a six week 'Always, Patsy Cline' in October-November, so I felt justified in treating myself to the complete Bear Family Everlys' box sets. 'Classic Everlys' (the early years - Columbia and Cadence, up to 1960) 'The Price Of Fame' (Warners 1960 - 1965) 'Chained To A Memory' (Warners and RCA - up to 1972) They weren't cheap, but I think that Bear Family Records are an international treasure! I already have their Lonnie Donegan collection, as well as the excellent Jimmy Bryant/Speedy West set, 'Flaming Guitars'. I can't wait for the Everly stuff - they were my very favourites from that era, and there'll be a wealth of interesting stuff for me to obsess over..... RR |

![]() They recently also released a single cd with early outtake material, unreleased versions of the famous hits. It's pretty interesting and again the booklet and packaging is great too. |

![]() Roger, so the 65-72 set, that's both the RCA albums, the WB studio albums, the 1970 live set and all the '68-69 country-rock outtakes? |

![]() Anyone who's reading my posts may note that although I love the Everly's whole career, I have a particular interest in the mid to late 1960s and the early 70s, right up top their split: Bearing that in mind, I can't resist posting this info, Roger has fired me up and I think I'll order a copy as well. THE EVERLY BROTHERS The complete Warner Bros. & RCA Recordings (1966 - 1972) The box is topped of by a mammoth hardbound book featuring a 1966-1973 day-by-day chronology of Everly Brothers' recording sessions, concerts, as well as radio and television appearances by noted Everly Brothers historian, Andrew Sandoval. The book is illustrated with hundreds of images (many of which are heretofore unseen) and a full discography featuring recording information and extensive personnel credits. CD 1: CD 2: CD 3: CD 4: CD 5: CD 6: CD 7: CD 8: DVD: 2. Intro Paul Anka: You're My Girl (Hullaballoo, February 2, 1965) phew! |

![]() Hey, Jason! Thanks for posting that info! I should have mentioned that I also ordered the 'outtakes' CD - may as well get it all while I'm at it. You're quite right - I'm eagerly anticipating getting all this stuff. I won't see it for about ten days, as I'm near the end of my Summer gig here in North Dakota, and I didn't want to risk having the order shipped here. It's on its way to my home in Naples, FL, and there's going to be a huge Everly-Fest at Rettig Towers! I'm particularly interested in outtakes featuring Clarence and his B-bender(!!!), but every phase of Don and Phil's career fascinates me. They were always principally concerned with the music, it seems to me, and their work sounds like a labour of love. What an amazing roster of studio musicians, too, with every one of them sounding like they're giving 200% to the project in hand. Maybe Don had a way of getting something special out of the master players at their disposal. I'm very excited at the prospect of the books that are included. I yearn for more knowledge of those sessions, and I bet there's some great 'guitar pornography' in some of the pictures! The DVD will, no doubt, be very interesting - (I wonder if there's a better 'print' of that TV show with Bob Warford on Tele with the boys? Maybe it's the same version of 'Mama Tried'.) There's only one glaring omission, and it's not the fault of the compilers... What a great pity that there's not a recording of the Brothers with their '90s band, featuring Buddy Emmons! Maybe one day a 'bootleg' will emerge.... I'll be reporting on my pre-Christmas present to myself in due course. Best, Roger R. ![]() A 'PS'... For anyone contemplating the same lunacy, I should let you know that the three box sets and the outtakes CD are coming from CD Wolf (SC), and it's costing me $417.75 including USPS Media Mail. I'm still gonna have all this stuff long after I've forgotten where the money came from..... |

![]() I know a guy at their local distributor, so I can get staff rate, but essentuially whatever it is in Germany, I have to double it. ULP! For now the '66-72 will suffice for me, my guy is on holiday, so I have some time to especially allocate some $$$ for this mission. Roger, I think the Bob Warford era band footage is from 1971 and most likely from Ed Sullivan, so by the look of it, it isn't part of the set. How good is CD eight, a live set, ahuh - ahuh. Now that's what I'm talikin' about, these people know how to fill a box set. |

![]() Hi, Jason I'm still here in ND, but I'll be home in FL by Sept 8th; my wife, Susie, hasn't yet told me the CDs have arrived, but it can't be long.... Lonnie Donegan lit the first musical fire in me, but the Everly Brothers created the sound-track for my late-teens and early-twenties. Lonnie was the King for me as I started to learn six-string on 2nd October, 1957, and then I heard Don's intro to 'Wake Up, Little Susie' on BBC Radio - that's how I got started, attempting to dissect all these inspiring guitar-figures. Don and Phil's records were so guitar-laden that I had enough material for three lifetimes! My 'favourite' Everly tracks vary from day to day - right now, I want to hear 'Illinois' (from 'Roots'), their '63 single, 'No-one Can Make My Sunshine Smile', and 'Husbands And Wives' (Roger Miller's great song - their version is on 'Pass The Chicken and Listen'). Tomorrow it'll be something else - I love those guys!!! RR |
