I ran accross this site today. It has the TV theme songs for just about any program you can think of in mp3 format. Some would make great instrumentals, and I've heard a few steel players do some of them. I recall someone on the forum doing the Star Trek theme on steel and it sounded great. I can barely remember the Dobie Gillis show. I do remember that there was something about that theme song that I really liked at that young age. When I listened to it today, I realized what it was. It's a great tune with Manhattan Transfer style harmonies. Anyway, thought it might be of interest to some folks who haven't heard those melodies in years.

Thanks Ken, great site. But it also made me realize how much time I've wasted over the years watching TV. I remembered most of the themes. I remember doing the Simon and Simon theme song as an instrumental for band breaks 20 years ago.

I like playing the Andy Griffith theme song ("The Old Fishin' Hole"?) on C6th. It lays out nicely and is fairly easy.

Too bad it doesn't include the song intro to 'Engineer Bill', an institution for us TV addicted kids in old LA, and one of the best chooglin toob themes ever.

Totally Hot Nashville Steel Guitar has a few selections recorded by various steelers.
I Love Lucy, I Dream of Jeannie, and Star Trek themes among them.

I bought the CD just for the cover art [babe sitting on a Ric D8], but the music ain't half bad either!

"Steelin' the Hits" is in the Forum Catalog, down near the bottom of the page. Tape #A-198-C is $10, CD #A-198-CD is $16. It's a real good steel album, often overlooked.

I had overlooked the cartoon section on that site. There's quite a few memories there also. One of my favorites that haven't seen in years is Deputy Dawg(Not the theme but the cartoon).

Whoo-Wee! Look at ole Dep-ty Dawg go!

I always thought the theme to McHale's Navy and Dick Van Dyke should be steel instrumentals.

I always wanted to hear a steel duet of the theme to "Inspector Gadget".

Ha - Inspector Gadget is one of the first tunes I tried to play on steel - a great minor scale exercise.

Green Acres is super fun to play but not really the best thing to foist on the public.

The guitar player in the Cornell Hurd Band, Paul Skelton, puts the Green Acres theme in the middle of the Cotton Eyed Joe whenever we play it. It works and the dancers don't miss a beat.

Seems like I've been hearing marching band versions of Hawaii-Five-O and Rockford Files alot more in the last few years, not that I frequent marching band events that much, but when I do, these 2 tunes seems to be staples now. Along with Smoke on the Water and Devil Went Down to Georgia.
