It's hard to tell because of parallax in the photographs, but it looks like the leftmost bar on the fourth course is about the same length as a bar in the middle of the first row? So does it have a lot of duplicate notes? It says it has 48 resonator tubes and a range from G1 To C5, which is 42 notes - it would be nice to see some manufacturer's info, to say the least. I guess you could wrap your head around some oddball chromatic note mapping - people can play glass harmonicas, classical kazoos, musical saws, even pedal steel guitar (!). They appear to be a legitimate Ebay music store, mostly selling "original" import guitars? 36 Strings, Anyone? But how do you PLAY it? Very wierd. The compass is said to be 4 octaves, yet the width is 24 notes. So is this like a double neck at different ranges? |

At first I thought it might be a Diamond Marimba, but it's not. |

I received some info in email. Apparently it's a descendent of a German folk instrument called a 'Strohfidel. ------------------ |

On another note Bobby, how are you coming along with your marimba? A steel guitar and a marimba make beautiful harmonies with each other. |

I'm playing marimba on a few songs every set. I really enjoy playing it alone at home a lot more than carting it around to play it in the band. I'm not good at it, but the variety of sound is a big selling point for the band, and it actually does fit better than pedal steel in some of our songs. I can't play marimba and steel at the same time, but I have been known to take a mallet to the strings on occasion! ------------------ |
