Topic: Which Boss delay would be best?

I'm looking to purchase a Boss delay pedal to fatten up my sound a bit.I have an Emmons p/p and a Peavey Nashville 1000. Which of these four pedals in your opinion(s) would be the best: the DM2, DD3, DD5 or RV3?Thanks,

Get an Arion SAD-1 from Billy Coopers in Virginia. They are killer analog totally adjustable and stereo. Best delay pedal IMHO. |

I us a DD5 when I use my Nashville 400. I think the DD3 is basically the same except for the "tap in" function of the DD5. I don't use the "tap in" function on mine and the only reason I have the DD5 instead of the DD3 was the store I was in didn't have any DD3's but had the DD5 and sold it to me for the same price as a DD3. |

I have the DD-3 and I like it. Often thought I might like to have the DD-5. But from what Jack says now I wonder if I would do the same as he.Sometimes we get things because of certain features only to find out later we never use the feature after all. carl |

Chad...I love my DD3, have had it for years. If you get one of the digital delay stomp boxes, be sure to also get the DC converter so you can run it from an AC source rather than batteries. These things EAT batteries. I carry a power strip in my amp, put the DD3 on top of the amp (I patch it into the amp effects loop using two short cables in and out), and power it up from the strip. I haven't ever had or used a DD5, but I doubt that I'd use the tap feature.Cat[This message was edited by Cliff Swanson on 21 November 2000 at 07:01 PM.] |

Hey Chad, I have a DM2 and I really like it. It's a very warm delay, but it doesn't do long delay times. It's great for slap-back and textures. As far as I know, it's the only analog model of those that you listed. These aren't made any more, but you can find them used if you look. They seem to have aquired a sort of Grail like status amoungst some guitarists, and I belive that Line 6 sampled the DM2 for it's "analog delay" patch in the Pod device. Hi,The DD3 is one of the best units for steel ,and It's cost effective.I own 3 of these units.If you want reverb also for depth,then you might want to go with a RV3.A nice unit too. |

I prefer the DM-2. I also have the RV-3 but I could never get a pleasing sound out of it.I also have a BE-5, which they no longer make, and it sounds good. It is just a five combination version of the early Boss effects. It is compact and very handy. It has noise gate, delay, compression, overdrive and chorus. I use it exclusively for my lead guitar. It think the DM-2 is the closet thing you will ever find to the original tape echo, if that is the sound you are looking for. |

I would have to concur with Fred Murphy's comments on the DM-2. I just bought a RV-3 and thus far haven't been able to dial up a tone as good as my old DM-2. There are lots of parameters to tweek on the RV and I may need to spend more time with it, both with and without its reverb (I also use a ART digital reverb which sounds good to me). I've been thinking of getting an old Fender Bassman for guitar and the RV would be the right unit to use with that, esp. as my other gear will be hooked up to my PSG rig.John |
