I'm also curious as to how it compares to the Hughes & Kettner Rotosphere, which up to now is my all time favorite simulator. |

I've got a Korg G-4 that I bought on Ebay a couple of years ago.Playing a Tele through it,it does a good job.(I'm a hack lap steel player and haven't tried it on the steel.)My only complaint is the eq on it.It has a knob which is meant to balance the output between the (treble)rotary horn and the woofer.To get a goodly amount of Leslie effect,you have to have a goodly amount of horn (highs) in the blend.With a Fender amp set to my usual settings for guitar,I found it too darn bright.For my needs,it would have to be eq'd after the pedal or put into a separate channel of the amp.
I tried the Hughes and Kettner in a store for 20 minutes or so,and turned every knob every which way,and found it curiously unresponsive to the (standard)guitar.It seemed like the Leslie effect only kicked in when the strings were attacked hard.YMMV,of course.I tried it before I got the Korg,and I think the Korg is better in terms of both response and sound.I only wish it had another tone control.It's strange that they only produced these things for a couple of years.
Most of my gigs now are with a keyboardist who has a portable Hammond and a Motion Sound Amp with a spinning rotor (which sound fantastic),so the Korg goes unused. |
