I know this speaker is voiced for PA, but has anyone tried it? I've heard that it's actually a good sounding steel speaker, especially for C6 applications. |

Ken, I have an older model NV/400 with a 1502-4 and a John LeMay Mod in it, I prefer the sound of it being played seprately, over my newer NV/400 with the 1501-4 & the Peavey Mod, but they really sound good together, side by side. For what it's worth.

I use the 1501-4 in my 500 with the Lemay mod and it will blow your sock down also in the Nashville and sounds great I use to use the 1502-4 in the 500 and when I replaced it with the 1501-4 there was not much diffrence to my ear |

Thanks for the input. I have a friend who is going to be replacing a JBL D130 in a Nashville 400. Looks like the 1502-4 might be a good bet for him. |

Ken, tell your freind that he might prefer the sound of he 1501 for the Nashville as opposed to the 1502. To my ear, the 1501 actually sounds better in the smaller Nashville box. My Vegas is a larger cabinet so I think that is why it sounds good, but my experience has always been that the 1501 sounded better in the Nashville. I have two Nashville's my self, one with the "mod" and one without and they both have the 1501 speaker. I also still have an older Session 400 and have compared the 1501 and 1502 in it and the 1501 deffinitely sounded better in the Session 400, probably due to the circuitry. The 1502 seems to sound a little heavier to my ear and in the smaller cabinet of the Nashville, with it's tighter sound, the 1501 seems to sound a little more open and "airy". I think you'll find that most pickers would prefer the 1501 for the Nashville.Dave |

I have a session 400 head that I sometimes use a pair of 1502-8 in enclosed/ported front cabinets. The biggest difference I hear is the highs on the 1502s are a little smoother/softer. Dennis |

I recommend the 1501-4 BW for steel guitar applications. All other BW's that we manufacture have KEVLAR impregnated cones which have a characteristic of sounding "middy". Please don't confuse today's 1502 BW with what was installed in the early Session 400 Limited amp. For clarification on this, feel free to give me a call here at the factory at 1-877-7320-8391. An explanation here is too lengthy, but I'll be glad to assist by phone. Mike Brown Peavey Electronics |

Mike, My older nv/400 goes back a long way, maybe to the beginning of the nv/400s, this 1502 in it does not have the Kevlar cone, think maybe it's the same speaker you'all used in the session 400s ? It really has a good bite, but all-across sweet tone, not Middy. Thanks Kenny PS, Oh Yeah, Mike I put this MOD in it long before you guy's offered one for the N/V400, Not slighting you partner.this was edited for the PS.[This message was edited by KENNY FORBESS on 04 September 2001 at 07:45 AM.] |

I actually prefer 1502 in my Session 400. I used one for about 3 years playing classic country and western swing. I did go back to the 1501. I still have the 1502 and it is a great speaker. I technically don't know the difference but it tends to be a little bassier to me. But it really works good on C6. The magnets are the same I believe. Just the coil is different or so I'm told. Bud Carter suggested it to me years ago. He was playing through 1502's in Vegas 400's at the time. You might check with him for more 1502 experience. |

If you have a Nashville 400 without either the Lemay or Peavey factory tone mod, the 1502 will have more lows. The amp was designed around the 1502 speaker but when they went to the 1501 speaker, with different voicing, there wasn't as much lows and a little harsher highs. The Nashville 400 mods add lows and smooths the highs, and basically tailor the amp to the 1501 speaker. The old Session 500 also used the 1502 speaker. I notice that Peavey now lists the 1502 as a "bass" speaker. |

Thanks for all of the input here. Based on what I've learned, I think we'll do a mod and 1501-4 for his old Nashville. I've done 4 Peavey mods on other 400's and it does sound very good with the stock 1501-4 speakers. Looks like this would be the best combination for the amp. I did not realize the new 1502 was a different speaker than the old 1502!! Glad I asked. |
