I have a Peavey Special 130 serial# 4A-01711461. Is this a 1974? What year did the Special 130 come out? Thanks Dennis |

Now you've got me wondering about what the serial no denotes as well. My special 130, which I bought new in about 1983 has the serial no 2A-01289609. Wow, that sucker is 18 years old. Catching up with me. |

Dennis,To my recollection the Special 130 came on the market during the 1980's. They are basically a Bandit whose power amp section is on steroids. Peavey didn't make all that many of them so consequentially you see more Bandits than Special 130's. I'm guessing your amp was bought new in the mid-1980's (1984-1986?). They are a good little amp. You can still get a schematic from Peavey if you ever need one. Tim R. |

Hello Dennis, The Special 130 was designed in 1982, but yours was manufactured in January of 84. The "4A" means "84 amplifier". The Special 130 and Bandit 65 both had the same preamp circuit, but the Bandit had half the power of the Special. Schematics for Peavey products can be purchased by phoning 1-877-732-8391. Most schematics such as the above units cost $2.50 including postage. Mike Brown Peavey Customer Services |

An electronic device is no place for unskilled hands. There are some people who "think" that they can repair their amplifier, but a high voltage product is not a place to experiment with without proper knowledge and training. We are required to screenprint CAUTION blocks on our products for a reason. Besides, why try to repair your own amp if you have thousands of authorized repair centers all over the world. We do sell most schematics for $2.50 including postage. You may order by phoning our U.S. toll free number at 1-877-732-8391. Outside the U.S., you may call (601)483-5365. |

Speaking of the Special 130, I have one I bought as a non-working chassis only, several years ago. I sent it to Peavey who fixed the problems very reasonably, then I found an old Pacer cabinet which fit the chassis with a little modification. I added a JBL E-130 and it made a great steel and guitar amp. I have about $175.00 in the whole thing.------------------ Darvin Willhoite Riva Ridge Recording
