I have a little gig to play,tough place to load in.I wanted to just use one speaker cab.I switched the Bridge Mode for mono.It still sounds much better in the stereo mode even with just one speaker.I know I can change my EQ and get it sounding better.However I really don't want to do that.So,the question is,will it damage anything to run the DPC in the stereo mode with just (one) speaker?? I have used my DPC-750 many times with only one speaker in a single channel. I believe that in the bridge mode you might stand good chance of frying a speaker. By the way say hello to your dad for me.Bill |

Guess this shows how big ah dummy I am.I just assumed the bridge mode was intended for mono use.The other mode for stereo.At least that's what I gathered from reading the manual.  Thanks Bill, I'll tell dad you said hello. ------bb |

Be careful when running an amp in stereo with only one speaker as you may damage the amp. You may want to post a question to Mike Brown about this? |

Sorry for my delay in responding to your question, but thanks for using our products. You can operate many of our solid state amps with no speakers at all connected, but the problem is that you won't hear anything! But, I'm just making a point here. Peavey solid state amps and many of our tube amps can be operated without any speakers connected. You can also operate the DPC amps with only one channel in operation while the other channel sits there idling and there is no problem. I've heard many times(even from my close friend who is a die hard Fender user), that Peavey amps are very reliable. The DPC amps are also short circuit protected and have the capability of shutting itself off if it gets too hot due to a shorted speaker cable. So, go ahead and use the amp with just one speaker connected to one channel, it won't hurt it. Bobby, bridge mode "is" converting the amp for mono use, but you are correct in advising players to use caution as the output power is 700 watts at 8 ohms minimum when bridged. Mike Brown

Thanks Mike.One last ? Since I'm only using one channel. Should I disconnect the second cable from my power amp to my pre-amp?Or does it make any difference?My rack is hard wired so I just uplugged the speaker cable,(right side)from the rack.Remember I'm still in the stereo mode. bb[This message was edited by Bobby Boggs on 04 January 2002 at 09:05 AM.] |

I'd like to hear the answer to BB's question about the unplugging one channel thing. I have a DPC 750 and have had the same idea. I guess that great minds think alike, BB.  ------------------

Skip.Maybe Mike will have time to answer our questions.Somethings they just don't tell you in the manual.I ended up taking both speaker cabs.I wrote my programs for stereo and they just don't sound that good in mono.Maybe if I had only one ear.I'm just spoiled I guess.But my back is getting stronger. bb |

The DPC series of amps can be operated safely without an input signal or an output signal(or without a speaker load) with no problems. |
