Hi all,Got a new rig and took it out for the first time this past weekend. Normally I ran the TubeFex into the power amp in of my amp with the old rig I had. Tried it this time, and had good tone, but couldn't keep up with the volume of the band I was with. I put a "tube" into the head of my programs, and this helped the volume, but everything went real tinny. The Derby I have has an E66 in it. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I tried various settings with the pre-gain and post-gain on the tube setting, but can't seem to find a clear, crisp setting. I went back sat. night, and ran it into the front of the nash. and this helped some, but it was still either really harsh or muddy. For those of you using this setup, I ask the following questions: 1) If using the tube, are you keeping the 3 or 4 band EQ in the patch. I went nuts chasing my tail, and I think this was due to trying to cope with two or three EQ's. 2) How are you setting the amp if running into the front of it, and where should I set the pre and post gains on the Nash. Also, does the presence have any bearing on this? 3) If using the tube, where do you set the pre and post gains, and the EQ in relationship to the EQ on the nashville? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I've got a PAYING job this coming weekend, and don't want to sound the way I did this past weekend. If you want, you can Email me at: fklott@mor-value.com Thank you, Skeeter |

I'll sure do that. Have other folks been having the same kind of problems? A couple of years ago when I was borrowing fellow Forumite Tim Rowley's Push Pull with the original single coil, I had NO problems. When I went back to an all pull, that's when it started...Could this be a sign? I know it's a great setup, I just need to get it working!Skeeter |

Skeeter and I discussed his delimma. I suggested that he reinitialize the Transtube Fex to restore it to factory settings, then load in the Newman presets, just to make sure that there wasn't a problem with the pre-programmed presets that the Transtube Fex included when he received the unit. Skeeter should be able to update you with what is found after that. |

Forest, I too would like to hear what you came up with. I find quite a difference in volumes from different settings. I've only had the TTFEX for a couple of months so I'm still figuring it out. For presets without a tube setting I realized I had to mess around with the global input / output volume settings. Also the tube effect has a parameter (Pad --I think?) which you can chose high or lo. It probably doesn't effect vol much but maybe tone. Give it try. |

Hey DJ, hope you are enjoying the ttfex, I now have a Tubefex with 12ax7's in the pre, just got it last week so the jury is still out on trans vs tube. I usually run the tube pre at 100% and the post about 75% for tweaking the volume and the global output down low,10 - 20 range. I run into the back of a nash400 and have had no problems with volume on either unit. dennis------------------ Sierra U-12 Crown Gearless, Peavey Nashville 400, Peavey Tubefex, Peavey Stereo 212, Peavey TT Bandit w/ex speaker. I thought that they had a feature that would override the Global input and output when adjusting the gain on the Tube setting? It seems like whenever I'm in a tube setting and adjust the output, the knob on the front for post gain is adjusted at the same rate. I did try something last night that works through headphones at least. I was in a non-Tube program and fooling with Global, and I turned the input all the way up, and had the output at about 80 percent...Is this the same thing as what the gent in the previous post is describing, but only in Global? I got NO distortion, had clear tone, and left my ears ringing abit after having the volume pedal mashed all the way down for a few minutes! Am I on the right track? Thanks to all that have replied. Hello Dennis, TTFEX is great. I noticed the Newman presets from my Profex2 didn't translate quite the same with the TTFEX. I'm just workin' on tweakin' EQ's,effect parameters, and vol. etc so things will fall in to place soon. Forest, with the tube preset in the effects chain the global volume control doesn't apply and vice versa. The non-tube settings are affected by the global volume control. At least this is what I noticed. I figure if keep messin around I'll come up with what I'm lookin' for. Good luck |

Skeeter, it is difficult to determine what is the source of the problem. Since the Nashville 400 is in proper working order, but the Transtubefex is loaded with data/programs other than factory programs, the only solution is to reinitialize your Transtube Fex, then reload it with the Newman presets for steel guitar. The Tubefex and Transtube Fex are not that much different as far as operation goes, so I suspect that the Transtube Fex is "confused". It "is" a computer, and computers occasionally have to be rebooted. Try this when you have a way to store your presets. Mike Brown Peavey Electronics Corporation |

Check out Jack Stoners' site, the patches he has for the ttfex are a good startting place. the profex patches will work but they don't use the tube prameter. http://web.tampabay.rr.com/jstoner1/ttlist.htm also there is a ton of information on the ttfex and tfex here. http://www2.netdoor.com/~johnfera/TubeFex/ Forrest, i sent you an email but it bounced back. is your address correct in your user profile? dennis

Skeeter. If the above help ideas don't work for you, then bring or send your unit to the store and I'll help you get it going again. From what I've been reading here, it sounds like your unit will have to be reinitialized and then reprogramed with the T.T.Fex programs as Mike Brown indicated. This is "usually" the easiest way to correct these kind of problems with this type of digital equipment. |

Hi, Forrest, I run my TTubefex into the power amp in on my Nash 1000, As you've noted, the presets with "tube" in 'em don't respond to the global settings. Many of the programs I use don't use the tube, and I run the global at around 32 input, 100 output with good results. (EQ settings to taste for the room). Good luck!------------------ C'mon by and visit!- www.markvanallen.com
