This concerns the JBL E-120 speaker. I have not used these, but have D-120's (actually F-120 orange frame) speakers in one of my Music Man HD-130's. I would like comments on how these compare to the JBL D-120 or the EVM-12L speakers.
I bought a Mesa Boogie Mark IIc (Item # 2516074995), and I bought one of these JBL's on ebay to replace the Celestion 80W.

I'd pick the EVM-12L for live work, and the JBL E-Series for recording. The JBL's sound a little smoother in the midrange, but they don't have quite the bottom-end that the EV does. For most intents and purposes, though, they're pretty similar. The old D-120 (or F-120) is an older design with a great sound, but they're not nearly as efficient as the later E-Series, or the EV. I got my best tone ever out of the old D-Series JBL's, but stopped using them because they wouldn't handle much power, and because of the low effieiency.The Celestion you mention isn't even in the same league as the E-Series JBL, or the EV. |

Thanks for the input. The speaker made quite a differnce in the amp. Not as warm as the D-120, but for this amp probably a better and safer choice. I have a new set of power tubes on order from Mesa, and this Mark IIC amp is starting to sound pretty sweet.
