I've got a 15" ElectroVoice speaker that came out of a "Dominator" PA cabinet from the early 1980s. On the magnet, these numbers appear: "815 0117 929" On the back of the paper cone is stamped "79842"Anyone know which model EV this is and where I could find info on it? I'm hoping I might be able to use it for bass. Thanks. ------------------

As a general rule, speakers made for PA use aren't well suited to the bass guitar. Bass guitar requires low frequencies that are not realized in general-purpose PA system speakers (the exception would be the large sub-woofers used in modern sound systems). Loud bass notes really push a speaker, so one not designed for such use might fail sooner, and the bass response would "roll off" (diminish in volume) at a higher frequency than a regular bass speaker. But, if you put it in a properly ported cabinet, and don't drive the volume levels up too high, it's performance might be "acceptable". |

Thanks for the info, guys.I contacted EV and they sent me all the specs, and even a mechanical drawing for a tunable cabinet made specifically for this speaker. With the port closed, cabinet is tuned for guitar. With the port open, cabinet is tuned for bass. ------------------

Wow Alan! That kinda tells ya how good EV's are, and how much the porting affects a spkrs performance doesn't it? Just out of curiosity, what are the dimensions of the cab & port? And where is EV located now? Thanks..------------------ ree-00-dee-doo |

Cairo,EV is at electrovoice.com I went there and sent an email to tech support. I'll email you the technical info they sent me. Two of the three files are scans, the other is a PDF. They are all quite large files. Cario -- I tried to send you info via email attachments but your AOL account rejected them. If you want me to mail you the speaker cabinet plans, send me your mailing address.[This message was edited by Alan Kirk on 28 April 2003 at 09:05 AM.] |
