Can this be done? I picked up an E-140 for nothing but I don't care the sound as much. I'm just thinking what I can do with it.

Thanks, Dave

Same frame, it's just that the coil winding on the 140 are copper while the coils on the 130 are aluminum.

Dave, I had a blown E140 reconed to E130
specs and it sounds great. If you have a good recone source it should sound fine.
Mine even had a split magnet. Hope this
helps.

Thanks guys. I have an E-130 at A Browm Soun for a recone. The guy says he can't get 4 ohm kits from JBL and it's difficult to get the 8 ohm kits so I may try one of the other sources that don't use JBL parts.

Dale, did they replace the copper voice coils with aluminum ones for your E-130 conversion?

Thanks, Dave Z

Dave, the voice coil was replaced but I
did not use a JBL kit because I wanted a 4
ohm recone. My tech told me the cone he ordered is the same JBL uses. He ordered a good quality voice coil as you can't get one from JBL unless you buy the kit. I can't tell any difference between it and my other JBL 4 ohm. It sounds great and I saved around $100. Dale

Dave,
Try Weber vst.com.
A buddy of mine talked, to Weber Sr, and he said they can replicate D130 voice coils.
Hifi or musical instrument( F gap).
Also if i remember correctly it was $60,and
i think theres a guy in Sac with 4 ohm kits.

Thanks Lee. I'll check it out. It's the E series I'm looking for. Maybe he can set me up.

The D/E/L/M,130s all have the same recone parts.
I think, the place in Sac is called Neils
speaker repair, and im pretty sure that
Orange county speakers in Garden grove, has 4ohm.
Dave if this speaker is being used with a solid state amp? i would go with a black widow, its not as efficent, but thats not as much of an issue with solid state, and its
cheaper and more practical in the long run.
