Ok, here's the list of all the upgrade-worthy capacitors. Some are electrolytics and should be replaced every 20 years anyway. Others are quality upgrades from aluminum or ceramic to film types. The main list is for Mouser.com stocked parts. There are also 2 power supply caps that I have listed to be purchased from Digikey.com. Mouser didn't have them.

So for anyone intersted in the Webb upgrade, this is the whole list to the best of my knowledge right now. I'll be posting a marked up schematic real soon so you can see which ones are addressed. Some of the caps in the Webb are hi-grade film caps and can stay there. The marked up schematic will indicate which ones stay and which ones go. I think the total price for all these caps is about $52 + shipping.

Enjoy!,

By the way, I did NOT include the capacitor list for the graphic EQ section.

If the amp is old there are 6 electrolytics on it that could use replacing.

4 - 1uF/50v (you can use the same 1uF film caps on the big list)

2 - 50uF/25v (or just order more of the 47uF/100v from the big list).

There are some cheap ceramic caps in the tone stages of the EQ, but I'll leave them alone for now.

The reason that I'm kind of ignoring the graphic EQ is that many people dont use it and Jim Webb recommends not using it unless really necessary. It's a 5 stage cascade type EQ and the signal gets sort of degraded 5 times when passing thru it. On theory alone I tend to avoid it since the rest of the Webb is so pure and clean. BUT, ears dont lie and apparently many people (like Jimmy Day and Tommy White) like to have the EQ in the circuit because it adds something good. I hear it too. So in the spirit of that fact, I think it should be left alone. The sort of grainy edge that the EQ section creates is a nice musical tool that can be left that way as a tonal option. It's completetly bypassed when switched out. The main part of this Webb cap mod is meant to seriously clean up the already sweet sounding preamp and power section of the 614-E. So you can have the ultimate clean Webb with the graphic EQ coloration as an option.

Brad, bravo!!! This is above and beyond the call of duty. I agree with your assesment of the EQ being on or off. I keep it on for that extra grit. Very accurate observation.
