Hey Gang,
I'm trying out a 70's, Silver Face, 100W, Master Volume, Twin Reverb, and it has a pair of "Pyle Driver" 12" speakers in it.

Sounds good at low volumes... I'll have a chance to crank it up a bit this weekend.

Anybody have any info or expierience with "Pyle Driver" speakers in a Twin?

Its My Understanding that Pyle Drivers are used primarily in Car Stereos. But there are some Heavy duty Boom Boxes on Wheels out there and if they sound good, Should not be a problem. I have looked at some of their 10" woofers for a bass amp one time or the other. The spec's are pretty impressive.

I'm banging on my head but I can't bring up the memory----just recently someone mentioned Pyle and said that it used to be "*******" company------a perfectly familiar speaker name. It instantly became more legitimate in my mind.

Man, this maturing gracefully thing really blows!

Yes, your Eminence!

PD's were very good speakers, similar to the EVM's. Big magnet and voice coils, highly efficient, and weighted towards the bass end. They'll do a good job as long as you don't expect them to "break up", and give you those nice "overdrive" sounds.

Thanks for the info, Donny!
I will be using this amp on a gig thur-fri, and am hoping to drop by Ken Fox's place on Sat to put it on his bench for a little "look-see".
I am looking for a Clean tube sound (no Overdrive), and am hoping these speakers will fill the bill.

So is there some relationship between Pyle Driver and Eminence?

BTW... I had a chance to buy a Super Twin 180 Watt-er a few weeks back... it looked pretty trashed... I hesitated, and when I went back for a second look, it was gone.
It was marked at $600 with original speakers.

I'm hoping this Twin will work out to be a good steel amp!
I hope to have a chance to run it stereo sometimes with my Vegas 400 w/ 15" JBL.

Pete: I never heard if you got the Turquoise Carter or not but if you did, I would be curious to know if you ever had a chance to use those two speakers systems that went with it.

Regards, Paul

Paul,
Do you mean those little amps that Carter had in their booth?
I've never played a gig with one (or two as I woud prefer), but they sure sounded cool!

A little late, but what the heck!

Pyle Speakers kicked some serious but in the 80's. Before I closed my shop, I bought 4 of the Pyle Source speakers. That was there pro line. Big Ass magnets and large voice coils. They are clean all the way up. I have used these in a ton of cabinets and have not found one that did not sound good in. I still have the boxes they came in, with all the info on them, if you need more info let me know.

Perfect for steel, or even sound systems, as well as bass, in multiples.

I use them the most in 2x12 combinations. Seemed to have lost one though. For some reason, I only have 3 now. Weard! They remind me of EV's but with stamped frames.

Thanks for the info guys.
I bought a cosmetically trashed '73 SF Twin Reverb that had these speakers in it.
It is at Ken Fox's place getting a full restoration, new tolex/hardware, and Ken will connect reverb to both channels and mod channel 2 for steel (I'll play 6 string electric through channel 1).

Anyway... I don't know if these are the exact same model, but the logo on the Pyle Drivers I have are identical to this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2372142784&category=43375

Fun Stuff!
