I like my DTR-1, Its on all the time in my rack and I can Check my tuning anytime I want to, Really like the large display, has strobe function too. The best part of it is I got it for $100 in a pawn shop and well worth it.Mine is the older DTR-1 not the newer model DTR-1000. Larry, I have used the DTR-1 for several years and I really like it..Its very handy for on stage in low light situations..Also to tweek up a string while the band is playing without any noise..------------------

Larry, I still use the DTR-1..I tryed the DTR-2 and it good also and cheaper..But if I recall the DTR-2 does not have a cents mode where the dTR-1 has HZ, Cents or Strobe..I fine the cents mode to be a bit more accurate and better sensitivity.By that I mean it sees a smaller change in pitch than the HZ mode. We use it to tune the whole 6 piece band to before startup..Everyone brings me their jack cord and I plug them in and just let them watch the bright leds and tune for the "green" one..It has a wide range of pitches available so I tune the rest of the band to 440 and myself to 442 on the E's.. ------------------

The DTR-1 tuner has a range from 438 to 455hz
If you use a compensated tuning where you tune your E to F to 435.5 How do you use this tuner?Any thoughts? |

It doesn't matter which one.....they only get you in the ballpark, but you are going to have to use your "ear" for the fine tuning from either one!

I have to cast my vote with the DTR1. I like mine, and I have used it to tune 3 pianos! I am still learning to use it, so the pianos are getting better and better.Here's a question: does anyone have an owner's manual they could photocopy and send me? Actually, I sorta disagree with Mr. Jones above. . . I was one of the last holdouts tuning with naught but a fork until about 5 years ago. I bought a DTR-1 (and then another one) and just love the thing(s). I find I can, now that I've memorized (through doing it) all the string tunings, I can just whip through all twelve on each neck and then play. I DO play pushpulls, so I almost NEVER have to tune the pedals. I generally only tune 'open,' then start playing. If I change a string because it broke, or if I have to use a diffrent gauge or brand becaue I got stupid, then I'll have to check pedal tuning. I think that the DTR-1 is the most tuner for the money out there at this time. I also just bought a Digitech GEnesis 3, which has a tuner in it. It is not as easy to use as the DTR-1, at least not after two weeks of trying. We'll see. If I go rackless, then I'll probably use just the GEN3 tuner. If I stay with a rack, then the DTR 1 will be in it.

DTR-1 is in my rack. I like it very much. If I travel light without the rack then I use an AT-12.

I have recently purchased a DTR1000 for my rack and it is perfect!! Great well lit display, you could read from the other side of the stage -displays the note you pick as well as either cents/or strobe. nice and light and has a mute switch so you can leave it on all the time!! Good luck! |

Are all you guys with DTR1 just using the extra jack in the volume pedal to the tuner or is it connected in the rack system. I use a Power Conditioner, Tube Fex and DTR1 in my Rack and how should I connect it all together. Thanks Eddie |

Len,
Set it to 438 and tune to the LED 3 Hz lower on the scale.I've used the DRT-1 for years and love it. I never tune by ear anymore. |

Larry, it is quite a bit of money for a tuner. DTR-1 that is.
But I was able to get ( and keep ) my steel more in tune than with any other tuner. Once I found my settings and wrote them down, I was able to tune up and fight the whole tuning thing ALOT less. When you're playing professionaly, that's invaluable. I stopped worrying about tuning and started playing............
If I ever take up the pedal steel again, it will be a "must have"

Here's my 2 cents worth (no pun intended). When I show up to a gig, once set up, I warm up my steel with picking exercises. I then tune my steel with a Korg WT-12. When I take the stage I figure my steel will warm back to pitch shortly. In between songs, I then use my DTR-1 (in my rack) via a bypass switch to check my tuning in in the hertz mode (tempered). My immediate concern is the heavier unwound strings (E9 #6 and C6 #4). Depending on the gig, I personally find the DTR-1 to be very helpful. For years I figure if I get the steel in tune and something sounds out then it must be me or the heavy handed guitarist. The DTR-1 is an easy way to do a quick on-stage check without going through a bunch of girations. |
