I use a '63 blond as my main guitar rig. I use it into a Carvin 4/10 tweed cab with the stock speakers....works for me!
I have played numerous lap steels and consoles through it, but I haven't tried my Fender 1000 pedal yet....and I don't know why, it'll probably sound pretty sweet. One of these days I'll have to give it a goJay |

Cool Jay,Only down fall is the reverb. I guess a pedal would work too. I think there is a cap you could change to voice it a little more for guitar. Maybe Ken Fox will chime in. Joe |

That used to be my main rig along with a Fender spring reverb. Sounded good to me. I got tired of lugging it around so traded it in for a Twin Reverb. Of course, this was back in 1967! How time flies when you're having fun!

Joe,
The bassman has a bass channel and a normal channel. IMHO, both work for guitar. As far as reverb, I've learned to live without it, I've always found reverb to muddy the sound of the band up, but just fine for solo playing or practicing. Just a touch of delay, and I'm on my way!

I got a '62 blonde bassman head i play through an old Jensen speaker cabinet that I refitted with 2x12" blue-backs from a silverface twin. Threw some insulation padding in there and closed the back with pegboard so the air could still move. Really improved the bass response. Picked up an orginal 62 wheat reverb unit to go with it, but don't really use it too much. The rig sounds great with guitar, pretty good for steel and Fender Rhodes. Kinda dirty, but...wish I still had my Twin 135w for that super clean sound. Shoulda known what I'd be missing  [This message was edited by Brian Davis on 21 January 2004 at 01:48 PM.] |

I played thru a Fender Bassman for many years, wore out the 4 10" speakers I don't know the year but somebody set a beer on it and it spilled down thru and quit working,the head lays in the cellar the cab has a 15" speaker in that is seldom used, is it worth fixing the head? Bob |

I still have a Bassman that I use to practice and it sounds GREAT with a EH Holy Grail Reverb. You cannot tell the difference between that unit and an onboard Fender spring believe me! I have used Bassmans on and off for years and they sound great. They WILL break up too soon for most pedal steel work unless it is kept at a very low volume. Thats why lead guitarists love them bob |

I have two BF Bassman heads and 2 2x12 cabs. When I was younger and stronger I would use both rigs for my Rock Steel gigs,
and maybe the Vibrolux and 1 Bassman rig for a large country venue.I would use delay on on side and dry on the other. The BIG sound! |

I have a BF Bassman, and a tweeed 59 Bassman clone w/4-10" speakers...Both used for guitar.
The older tweed Bassman has spec's very close to the older Marshalls.... Great guitar tone..Jim |

I heard Greg Jones use a bassman at the Lexington Show & he had excellent tone!!!!
Of course the ZB didn't hurt either.------------------
