Pedal steels do have pretty narrow string spacing, after all...

Certain ones do. The old horseshoe-shape e-bows did.

the most popular EBow model only works on 1 string at a time
there was an older model made that got 2 strings goin' - these models are hard to find and sought after

It is my understanding the double string model was made expressly for the PSG. However NOT 100% sure of this. In any case, it does indeed excite to strings simultaneously. What I can't remember is whether the strings can be adjacent or they must be separated by a non excited string.

They also look much different. Albert Svendall used one at both Atlanta shows in 97 and 98. I would LOVE to have one. But as has been posted, they are no longer available.

I was looking at one of the old PSG E-Bows that Gerry Hogan had only a couple of weeks ago. I am pretty sure they excite say 3 and 5 and not adjacent strings,

I have one of the "ordinary" ones as currently available.

I bought one of the original two-string or horseshoe shaped e-bows when they first came out. They were designed just for steel, before the first single-string guitar models were built. Very cool, and they (horseshoe only) excite any two strings separated by another string, ie: 3 and 5, 4 and 6. It actually got me looking for harmonies where I hadn't before on lower strings. You could tilt the "bow" slightly to forward or back to emphasize or eliminate one of the harmonies, bringing harmony in and out along with a melody note on the other string. Apparently to stifle competition, the electronics part was completely potted in hard plastic, and as they developed problems inside they were unrepairable. I still have my original unit and it makes a nice paperweight... The newer e-bow plus is a nice single string version with a variation switch to change the harmonc content. Great effect I use almost every gig somewhere.

I recall reading somewheres that fewer than 100 of the dual string e Bows were produced. I've never seen one in the flesh but use one of the e Bow pluses on steel also. Maybe some kind soul could post a picture of one for us. I heard about one winner who taped or glued two ebows together to simulate what the dual string one does.
