I've got a Melobro dobro with a magnetic pickup (factory installed) and wondered what type of EQ to use to minimize feedback, yet not let it sound like a lapsteel.
I'll be using my steel amplifier and have not gigged with it yet, so I'm soliciting advice before I get to the gig and find out I can't use it at high volume.

The magnetic pickup will always sound like a lapsteel. You'll need a piezo pickup like the McIntyre or Fishman/Beard for a more acoustic sound.

You can also blend the two pickups together to achieve some interesting tonal characteristics.

I guess I was hoping to find a series of settings, like 100hz -8.0db, 300hz -4.5db, 1khz +2.5db etc. that would de-accentuate the low resonant (feedback)frequencies and emphasize the higher ones.
The combinations are endless, so I was wondering if someone tried this before.

Hmmm....

I can only speak from my experiences, but, resonator guitars are nothing but big speakers and are prone to feedback.

The only satisfactory "cure" that I've found was an inclusion of a feedback eliminator in the signal path. You'll still have to be aware of your proximity to the amp, but, it'a a huge help.

ymmv...yada, yada!

Tony,
I was having the same problem. I bought a Boss EQ pedal and it seemed to do the trick. Thanks again for the pics of the band.

Hi !
Don’t know if it’s what you are looking for, but Bob Brozman has a great resonator sound reinforcement guide at the national Guitars website. Check this link : http://www.nationalguitars.com/tips.html
