Just curious what other steel players think about the Evans amp. I own a Nashville 112, Nashville 1000, and an Evans SE-200. I like all three amps, especially the Peaveys for their reverb. However, I think the Evans is a very well built amplifier (and not cheap I might add). It's a really clean amp with decent reverb. I use it mainly when playing my Carter. It's pretty darn clean. Anyone else out there use Evans? Thanks. |

I do because it is a mellow amp which I can closely duplicate the sound of an old Sho-Bud or push pull Emmons.------------------

I use two Evans SE-200 with the last 3 steels I owned, A Sho-Bud, Emmons and now a Williams, and I really like the sound it gives, They may not be the best on the market, But compared to Webb 614, and the nashville 400 weight wise they have them beat hands down. and the will stay right with them in sound as well..

I have an SE 200 w/Deltalite speaker. I have just recapped it with Brad Sarno's cap kit which includes the treble pot mod. I can say the difference in the sound of the amp with the mod is a big improvement. I also use it with Brad's SGBB. The sound is much smoother and better defined in the highs and lows. The cap mods are inexpensive and well worth the effort. Talk to Brad about this, he will go out of his way to help....IP------------------

I've had an SE 200 for almost a year and think its a great amp, great string seperation. my only problem was with the Evans co. I blew the original speaker and called them for a replacement, they sold me on the Deltalite, but that being an 8 ohm speaker, it cut my volume and head room way down. after talking with a couple of guys, I put in a Black Widow speaker and the amp sounds better than ever. |

I've been cooking with my SE200 for three years now and it's never let me down. Of course, I like my Nashville 400 with the mod, too. Sometimes I use them both and that really sounds good.Tony |

I was never really happy with my tone until I got the Evans SE 200 HV. I got rid of all the other amps I had. Jim I'D RATHER BE STEELIN' |

To each his own therefore I don't want to knock anyone's amp. I have 4 Evans and one Webb. I like the warm smooth tone I get from all of them and the Evans Co. have been very good to deal with. |

I have a SE-200 and love the sound but not so much the performance. Virtually since I got my amp. (used), I have had a microphonic problem. It sounded like a bad solder joint so I re-did all the joints but it is still there. I am about to believe it has something to do with the EXPAND switch.
Tapping on it causes the amp to be microphonic. Has anyone else had this problem?Charles Tilley |

I had a 98 model for a couple years and liked it until I got an FET-500. The FET-500 ate its lunch for reverb for sure and I'd say beat it out in overall tone too. I even had the HV mod kit installed from the factory and didn't keep up with the FET-500. The reverb on the SE-200 just didn't do it for and I had to use the RV-3 to get it to sound like something. The FET 500 I could play alone with no effects. I will say the BW 1501 SB in both amps was the real trick to getting the tone. The same speakers in my old Session 400's sounded muddy but the Evans are so much brighter that it evened out the tone. I tried JBL's, the original (forget what it was now) and they couldn't compared to the tone of the BW's. In the old Session 400's I use the older 1501 Super Structure speakers for the best tone to me. I believe this to be the best speakers for each amp. Your mileage may vary. I sold the Evans and kept the Sessions. Nothing wrong with the Evans but I had the Sessions second input wired direct to the power amp so I can use a processor if I want without having to go to the amp pre-amp. The old Session 400's having always just done it for me and after the Brad Sarno mod kits were installed they hum better now than ever before. I'll always have these amps and they're just nearly indestructable. 20 years of solid playing in smoky bars and road trips and there still hanging tough. |
