I am not a Peavey amp fan, but I will say that their customer service is excellent.

I think Peavey makes some of the most reliable equipment ever made. Their customer support is legendary. With that said, I would like to ask a few questions, so I can possibly learn something: Suppose you were to buy another brand of amplifier. Say you bought a new Fender Steel King. Suppose you had a problem with your new Fender Steel King. Is it possible to send the Fender Steel King in directly to the factory for repair? Wonder if Fender can match Peavey's legendary 'factory' customer service. Does Fender have a representative on the Steel Guitar Forum who helps people like Mike Brown does? Where is the Fender factory repair address and phone number? Who is their contact person with the world of steel guitar? Just trying to see if there is something to learn here.

I bought a brand new Nashville 1000 at a local music store in my home town. Brand new and the first time I plugged it in it had some static in it. I contacted Mike Brown and he told me to take it to the music store to let them plug it in and check it out. I did that and true to form it had static in their plug too. Mike sent me another brand new 1000 that I had within just a couple of days. In my book thats as good as service gets. Now I'm looking to get myself another new amp hopefully soon and it'll most likely be a Peavey.

Keith from what I understand with Fender stuff just goes to a central repair place. I tried to get a couple Fender things fixed up here and they got sent to Green Bay. I know the Fender plant isn't there. Sam Marshall has been a big help by the way.

I think the issue is the Delta Blues specifically. Not Peavey overall. Peavey is a wonderful amp and company. If you have or still own a DB, let's hear your experience. I don't think you can find ANY manufacturer with a track record better than Peavey, with maybe the exception of Fender, and I can point out some crap amps there too.

I've had several Peavey amps over many years. The DB is the only one I have had trouble with. It sits abandoned now. When I turn it on it squeels. I got a deal on it used, and I'm not sure it's worth a trip back to the factory. I'll look for someone local to fix it if possible.

I wouldn't give up on Peavey because of one lemon. They have the best customer service in the business. The fact that they no longer make the Delta Blues may say something. Peavey does not like to keep something on the market that has problems. Other manufacturer's do not have this same ethic.

****the fact that they no longer make the Delta Blues**** ???? http://www.peavey.com/search.cfm?term=Delta+Blues

I still have them here in stock, and never had a problem with any of these amps. Not even as much as one returned for repair.

The Peavey square box PA's have gotten considerably better over the years and it seems a bunch of manufacturers using those circuit mounted XLR's have had problems with the plastic bodies breaking.
Mackie has come out with a line of powered mixers which are outstanding. I have never had a problem with the Mackie products or the XLR's they use.

Keith, I'm sure Mike is a great guy and does all he can to help those that contact him. But he can't be everywhere all the time. I guess you are fortunate to have him a member of This forum. As far as the Steel King, I have no need for one being as I don't play steel. Also I don't have any idea if I can send a Fender amp directly to the factory. I really wouldn't care as long as it was fixed. I have sent my DB amp to the factory at least once and had an authorized Peavey repairman work on the amp at least twice with the same outcome.
I have the DB 2-10, a friend of mine has the same amp and is having the same problem, is this just coincidence. Everyone I know that has the small powered mixers have the same problem with the xlr connectors pulling out, is this coincidence? Oh and I've had these replaced also, plus the reverb that has never worked! These are the only 2 items I have experience with besides the speakers (that I've already stated do the job)

I should have titled the thread "I've had it with the Delta Blues amp & the small powered mixer's". I didn't intend to direct this toward all Peavey products. Ditto on the Mackie!

Charles, I've been away from the computer since December 23rd, so I apologize for my delayed response. However, there has been Peavey personnel in our Customer Service Department through the holiday season that would have been glad to take your call. If a Peavey service center/dealer was involved with the last repair of your amp, did you contact them first as I'm sure that they would like to know what they may have missed? I've posted our toll free number multiple times here on the Forum, so it wouldn't have cost you anything to contact us.

We do have a reputable service centers and dealers that are fully capable of repairing your amp, but there is certainly not a problem with contacting me or someone else here at the factory. I will be in the office on January 4th. Again, my number is toll free at 1-877-732-8391, ext. 1180. Our office hours are from 8am to 5pm CST. I do have voice mail or can be reached by e-mail at mikebrown@peavey.com or by fax at 1-601-486-1361.

I can't speak for every repair person that is hired by our dealers and service centers, but they do have to meet requirements to become an authorized Peavey service center. We allow any of our dealers and service centers to send their person to the factory for a "one on one" with our repair team. We have held week long service seminars for over 30 years where dealers and service centers can send their personnel to the factory for a weeklong one on one with our service center technicians and the engineers that design Peavey products. Unfortunately, all technicians have the option of changing their field of expertise and may move on to a job of their choice. All Peavey dealers and service centers are independently owned and operated, however we do make a constant effort to provide what is needed for them to do their job properly. We have made it much easier for those in the amp repair trade to obtain the tools that they need to repair our products. However, some problems/symptoms are not detected at the onset and it takes time for a problem to surface. All that can be done in a case such as this is to burn the amp in and try to duplicate the problem on the tech bench.
What you didn't mention was what the actual symptom is other that it "crapped out". Does that mean that it makes no sound and the tubes light up? Makes no sound at all and the tubes don't light up? It could be something as simple as a tube or a switching jack. Did you patch between the effects send return jacks? I've driven all over Mississippi and Alabama with my Delta Blues and Nashville 400 laying down in the back of my pickup truck with no problems. A tube might pop out occasionally, but it hasn't been a problem for me and all of my Peavey products are stock.

I also own Fender and Peavey amps. Guess what? For the most part, all companies setup their service centers in much the same way. In the MI field, there is not that much difference in how an MI company handles their repairs as far as taking care of a customer.

The Delta Blues amplifier has been in production for at least 6 or so years as I have owned mine for that long. Sorry, but I'm at home right now and cannot verify how long the DB has been in production. I classify a product to be called a "lemon" when it wasn't designed right since its inception. Even then, a service bulletin from the manufacture can rectify the problem.

When we design a product, it does have to pass our stiff shipping test. One of the tests that a product(including the DB) has to pass is a vibrating platform that emulates a truck ride). I recommend that you do purchase a case for any of your electronic products. I have performed with a band since my teens and I am now 49 years old. I've treated my amps with respect and they have served me well.

There is no need to send the whole amp(heavy wood cabinet and speaker to me at the factory, if the speaker and reverb pan can be eliminated as being the problem. Our address is;
Peavey Service Center
Attn; Mike Brown
412 Hwy. 80 East
Meridian, MS 39301

I suggest that you print and include this note with your amp chassis. Also, be sure to be as descriptive as possible about the symptoms. Also, include your daytime phone number.

Let me say that this Forum is the best at allowing musicians such as us to post their problems and comments about products. But, please contact the manufacturer FIRST so that they may have a chance to rectify the problem for you. Slamming a manufacturer before they are even aware that you are having a problem doesn't buy you anything. Contacting them first buys you everything and serves a purpose to others as well.

I appreciate the comments about this matter and about other Peavey experiences. I hear more positive than negative responses, so that tells me that we are on the right track. It is very easy to get in touch with me or any of our personnel. We also have two full time phone technicians that can assist with the repair of our products, but please understand that we can only do so much by phone. The rest has to be resolved by a qualified technician.

...I think Charles is past the point of no return. It's really just spit now. That's his own personal problem. I say shut down the thread and get rid of the venom. bOb has kept it on long enough for Mike to reply.

I'll also add that it's a well-known fact that most guitarists who don't play steel are envious as hell of pedal players. Can't stand us.

Al, you bad boy - stirring up those poor 6-stringers like that. But it does bug me when someone gets involved in electronics discussions without mentioning they are talking about using a regular guitar.

First off, thanks for the reply Mike and I apologize for airing this here without first contacting Peavey. It was just a jerk reaction to the same problem. The amp does make a sound, altho the volumn seems to be at about 50%. As I stated before, the 3 12AX7 tubes are cold as ice, I replaced them with 3 new Peavey 12AX7's I had bought, still nothing. I called the music store to get a service history. They said they didn't always post warranty work but found 2 tickets for the same problem. The amp was bought 03/01/00. Service posted for 01/18/02 and 03/15/04. I know the guy that worked on it the last time and he knows what he's doing, he's been repairing amps a very long time. I will probably send the amp to Peavey at some point.

Al, you do have a way with words. Altho, I wouldn't say I was envious of pedal players. I do admire anyone who is a proficient player, regardless at which instrument. Are you a proficient player? If so, I have to admire you!

Good Day
