I have a almost new Ampeg BA115 amp that has turned out to be my favorite bass amp.I walked in to play one day and the cover was on the amp, but the power switch was on. (It could have been on for 2 days straight, covered up)the amp was dead. No power getting to it, as far as I can tell, the power lamp isn't even lit up. I couldn't see any obvious fuses on it anywhere, thinking it probably had blown one. Any ideas on what I can look at to repair the darned thing. Hate to drive 180 miles one way just to take it to the service center, only to find it has a hidden fuse or something simple I could repair. Thanks for any help or suggestions. Daryl

Many times internal fuses are the typical automobile glass type fuses. They are easily replaced if you can get to them. See if you can get access to the main circuit board and look near the power transformer. Don't touch any big capacitors! |

Go ahead and touch the caps, Daryl. You might like the way you look with curley hair........JD
Seriously, if you are worried about the caps still being charged, you an short across them with a wire and discharge them. |

Quite often amps will have another fuse inside the chassis as well as the one or two outside. The internal fuses I have seen were usally soldered in place, but those were in older amps. Some of those were repaired using a fuse holder that clips onto the ends of the old fuse, requiring no soldering. If it was left on, and covered up, it probably was the victim of overheating. Open it up, and take a look. Can't get any worse, can it? Les

OK guys, I'll dig into the amp this week, just got over the flu! If touching something inside will make me have curly hair, I'll do it. Beats the heck out of having these bald spots on top!I'll be careful....that why I have rubber handled tools and a 20 yr old son! He'd like curly hair! |
