I like the sound of tube amps and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Fender Concert, will it handle the bottom end when used for steel?
I know the twins and the vibroverbs are good but I do'dt want to go to the heavyweight division.Any other suggestions for tube amps with 12" speaker.
Many thanks

Billy,

I did a session last week and used a concert. I think it sounded great. The reverb was great and the low end response was also very impressive. We even turned up the gain and got a great overdriven tone for one tune.

I wouldn't want to move it though. It's huge.

I'm confused...I thought a Concert was a Super Reverb sans reverb.

Are we talking about the Concert Reverb? It has a 4x10 cabinet.

Years ago I used an old brown-face Concert with a Fender black face/white knob outboard reverb tank. In that incarnation the Concert was built with a single 15" speaker. OUTSTANDING sound, the best I had for many years, too bad it wasn't mine....

Back in the early ’60's I had a black Fender Concert w/4x10”. I thought perhaps I could get a better sound by changing to well-known, Famous-Brand speakers! So, besides rewiring the (2)-6L6G? Tube-Sockets and replacing them with GIANT industrial-tubes, I decided to switch to 4x10” JBL's. [That added about 80# to the Amp.!] It sounded pretty good, however; the Amp. still broke-up quite easily on the job! It wasn't the speakers. It was the fact that the amp. was only rated at 40 Watts RMS!
