Does anyone use the peterson Strobostomp
for steel?
If so, how does it work and can it be programed like the VSll.
I just found out that the VSll does not have a true bypass but the Strobostomp does.

I use it and, yes, it can be programmed just like the VSII. Works great. As for the "true bypass", I initially thought that this was a true claim but as of last night, I'm not so sure. I think it was darkening the tone. But then again there's a third cord involved when I have it in line, so maybe it was the cord, and not the stomp? |

Jim,
I use the VSll and it's a great tuner but after about a month of use I have determined that it does color and suck the tone somewhat. I have to unplug it when I play. The way around this is to use an A|B box but I really don't want another gaddget to plug into. Thats why I'm thinking of the Strobo. |

The Strobo may color the tone if used in line with the tuner on but should bypass clean with the tuner off. But what do I know. I thought the VSll was a true bypass. |

I've been coming from the pre eq patch of my Vegas 400 to the VS-II tuner, that seems to work just fine. I did not know the StroboStomp was programable.------------------

I have the VS-II, and had not been running it in-line, due to the "tone sucking". On the road, I was using the 2nd amp output from my Goodrich LDR extension power supply to the VS-II. When I needed to tune, I would hit the tuner button on my Pod XT to kill it's sound, but actually tune to the VS-II. I always hated that "extra" button pressing step, because every second counts during a live show.I can't say for sure, but I cut a few tracks over the holidays going from my guitar, to my MatchBro (I forgot about the impedance matching in it...), to the VS-II, to my Volume Pedal, etc. I tried to "A/B" that configuration, and at elast I can tell you that it is better, and it might have addressed the problem completely. I have a VS11 and I just use it straigt from the steel with its own cord and unplug it when tuning is complete. I only tune inbetween sets. I'm just too busy otherwise to be tweeking the tuning while on stage. I will tune by ear during a set when needed.------------------

I just got one of these right after Christmas. It is not true bypass as shipped in the box. There is a dip switch inside the battery compartment that needs to be activated in order to operate in true bypass mode. This is explained in detail in the instruction manual. It is programable for your own "tempered" tunings and I have programed the "Newman" presets into it. Works great and doesn't alter my tone at all in true bypass mode.JP |

Is there enough room in the presets for all the notes for pedals and knees?

I should clarify that what I got is the model VS-S Strobo Stomp, not the VS-II. There is room for both open strings and pedals and knees. To do this, I used two different program settings, P-1 and P-2. Jerry,I essentially use Newman's settings, but I lower the whole tuner 7 cents. I do need a different setting for the D string on C6th, and have gotten around it by tuning it to a barred G. I have got to have the tuner in-line somehow. Lights and temperature make adjustments ever few songs very important for me. Tuning by ear just isn't an option either. Good luck, David Spires |

I know what you mean, I use my tuner in line all the time too. I just have to find a way to without effecting my tone & power.
Newmans presets are to sharp for me also.
