Well i just got one of these from a friend and i must say it sounds preatty darn good with an elctro voice 15 in it. It also has a phaser built in. Sounds great on my steel and my 72 tele. What's the word? |

My opinion is that they are great amps. I used some of them in the '70's and loved them. Never heard a Music Man that didn't sound good.------------------

Great amps.... I have two, one with a JBL and the other with an EVM. Brought the first one new in about 1980 and the second one used about 10 years ago. |

I have a 100 watt 1x12 Music Man. You can find some good threads on Music Man if you search the Forum. After the CBS takeover of Fender, Leo Fender and some of his old employees started Music Man. They used a new concept, a solid state preamp with a tube power amp. It works pretty good. The amps are light and compact, with lots of punch. As expected, the sound is somewhere between ss and tube. I still prefer the tone of my all-tube Fenders, but as a compromise for a small light amp for practice or small venues, my Music Man is pretty good. I imagine the 15 would be even better for steel. |

I've got a 115RP, with a BW 15" speaker, sounds great for steel OR Telecaster---but Even better with my Gibsons--must be the humbuckers. Good amps, built like tanks. |

I actually liked it on guitar(clean sound)
i only honked around with a dyna comp in front.
But for steel it sure smokes my nashville 400 and my session 400 LTD. Big Sound. It has EVM speaker. |

Jody,,are you making fun of my ethnicity?  ... I think its the solid state preamp I don't like in MM amps. I find them less warm than an all tube Fender. They sound very nice for steel,where you want very little front end coloration. I think they are VERY good amps,just not my cup of tea for guitar.. I'll bet that 115 is a KILLER steel amp tho' bob |

Those 6L6's in the power amp sction are what makes my 115RP sing, whether steel or guitar propelled. Overdriven preamp tube don't make it, for me. And I think if you go back and listen to the "Layla" album, you'll hear a lot of Fender Champ amps, turned up loud.IMHO, the worst knob EVER put on a tube amp, was master volume. Lets the power amp tubes idle, while those little 12AX7's do the amplifying. And that's why so many of us take a DeLuxe Reverb to guitar gigs. How many people play through a non-master-volume Twin Reverb, with the channel on "10?" |

I have a HD-115-150 I bought new in '82. To me, it's one of the best steel amps I've ever played through. I personally like it better than any Twin I've heard or owned. I believe that's due to the solid state preamp. It's very clean, then the tube power section adds the sweetness that only tubes can. Since '82 when I got this amp, a 15" EVM-L has also been at the top of my list.Just recently I picked up another Music Man head, a HD-150 bass, from another Forum member. I may like it a little better than the guitar voiced model. They are different. Same qualities but the bass model has more lows and low mids. The guitar model can get real bright on the top end. You can keep it under control, but the tone controls on the bass model seem more to my liking. |
