I get a slight pop from my 2112 now and then when it's just sitting there on with the power amp on as well. Any ideas?Have any of you other 2112 users upraded to the 2120 Version 2.11 chip? Was it worth it? Thanks David

Hi David,Since there are not too many of us using this particular device I thought that I would chime in. For the popping sound, that is not normal and if I were you I would contact Digitech. I did upgrade the bios to a 2120 and it does give you some more choices of molding the sound. I don't do alot of processing, so in my case it probably didn't do much. Your mileage may vary. I've used the Digitech 2112 for 6 or 7 years now and really like it. I have two of them in case one goes down. When I do a rare edit on a patch in one of them, I copy it to the other so they will be identical. I'm happy with the patches I have so I didn't see any need to upgrade. The pop is not normal, it could be a tube going bad. I changed the tubes in the one I use most about three years ago. I also changed the memory batteries in both of them about the same time. Unlike the Peavey units, these use a standard computer battery that fits in a holder, and is not soldered in. You can change it while the unit is powered up and not lose your settings. ------------------ Darvin Willhoite Riva Ridge Recording

Thanks guys. This unit has seen very little use. It was purchased new by a friend of mine who used it for a few gigs, then it went into storage. I'm thinking that maybe some oxidation got in there somewhere while it was sitting in the non climate controlled storage facility. I ordered the upgrade chip for mine. When I replace the chip, I'll go ahead and do the battery and at least reseat the tubes and see what happens. Any recomendations on tubes? Thanks David

Of all the things suggested, reseating the tube into the socket appeals to me most. Pull it out and look for corrosion. Pop the tube back in and be sure it's seated firmly. Something intermittent like an occasional pop (or crackle or other breakfast cereal sound) can be caused by something like a bad cable or bad input jack or just a little corrosion or a bad connection for the tube.Worth a try, in any case, while you're doing all that other stuff. ------------------ Larry Bell - email: larry@larrybell.org - gigs - Home Page 2003 Fessenden S/D-12 8x8, 1969 Emmons S-12 6x6, 1971 Dobro, Standel and Peavey Amps [This message was edited by Larry Bell on 09 March 2005 at 01:40 PM.]

Thanks Larry, BTW, your Patch from Scratch page has been a tremendous help! That and RTFM! (Read the Freakin' Manual!) I'll get out the electronics spray when I crack the case and make sure it's nice and clean inside. Take Care David

Well, I got my upgrade chip in the mail today and I picked up a new battery on the way home from work. Then I got home to find that my new (to me anyway) Marrs cabs had arrived. First order of business, mounting the shallow basket 1501-4 black widows in the cabs. These cabs are designed for the speakers to mount from the back, but just for grins I front loaded them. Then I cracked open the 2112 and installed the 2120 version 2.11 chip, set the jumpers and powered it on, and it was stuck at "store to...." then I found out that you have to do a factory reset after you install the chip. Bye Bye presets, but, they didn't take long to program the first time anyway. Got it all hooked up and started with Larry Bells basic eq settings and man what a sound! It sounds freakin' huge! I still love my FET 500's, but, this is a killer setup for when I want to go stereo. I'll have to drag this out on the next gig! Oh and by the way, reseating the tubes seemed to cure the pop! Thanks!!!! David
