Does anyone have easy means to make a wooden ring so I can adapt a 15" speaker hole to mount a 12" speaker. I've got a Peavey LTD400 and I want to put in my 12" Black Widow in it. I'm thinking all I need is a 3/8" thick wooden donut with an ID to fit the Black Widow (front mounted) and an OD the same as a 15" speaker. I can drill the holes and mount the t-nuts. I don't have a good jigsaw or bandsaw for this task. Anyone?Brad Sarno |

Brad, just take the seat off your toilet. That way you could mount the hinges and swing the speaker to any angle. JUST KIDDING... The devil made me do it. |

A Pacer cab is the same size and has the 12" opening, just in case you can't find the adaptor. I used the 1203-4 and it sounded better to me than a 1501-4SB!!! http://community.webshots.com/album/297015910VRFFGm?788 [This message was edited by Ken Fox on 16 March 2005 at 07:14 AM.] |

Brad, does the outer edge need to be circular or can you just cut a piece of plywood to the correct rectangular dimensions so that there is only one circular hole to cut. I have done this a time or two (although I must confess I have more often chopped out a 12" hole to mount a 15" speaker). dg |

Brad,Go to your local big box home center and pick up a cheapo jigsaw and a partial sheet of plywood. I would use plywood as it has grain in two directions (and multiple layers) which will make it a bit stronger. If you have a Menards close a cheapo jigsaw (toolshop brand) will cost about the same as you would pay to ship something. I am sure you have a drill so in about 20 minutes you would be done. I can help you as well, drop me an email.

Brad, I too would be glad to help you. The only question I would have is if you can do it in such a way as to allow the vibration of the speaker to carry to the baffle and I don't even know is that is a factor. It just seems like a possibility to me. On the other hand I don't see how a rear loaded speaker can vibrate the baffle as much as a front load. I think I would consider cutting the filler circle about 16" and dado around it leaving a 1/2" flange about 1/4" thick to overlap the 15" circle. Jerry |
