I have an old DOD 'Phasor 201,' and everytime I step on the switch, it has gets this hiss. It hisses at me the whole time the pedal is on, and the volume goes up a bit and it is a very bright, terrible sounding tone. As soon as I turn in off, it stops. Anyone have any clue to what might be wrong, or who i could send it to, to make it sound good again?------------------ "Keep on Keepin' on" www.bartmaloney.iwarp.com |

Hiss in a piece of solid-state gear, like a stomp-box, is usually a sign of a transistor that's gone leaky, or an electrolytic cap that's gone way off value. If a good tech could get the schematic, he might be able fix it. But, it would probably cost nearly as much as a new unit.Unless it has some collector or sentimental value, you'd be better off buying a new one. |

I have owned several stomp box phasers that hissed. In my case, it was a normal sound from a cheap phase shifter. I had to place them in line before the volume pedal to minimize the problem. Other effects do not seem to have this hiss, that phase shifters have. My rack mount Lexicon does not hiss. The phase shift effect is called "flange" on the Lexicon. I never studied those two terms to learn what the difference is, if any. | |
