Just bought this amp for next to nothing, because the amp portion is fried.

IS it worth fixing one of these up ? They seem to have endless features...half power switch, tube power amp section, para-mid control. Might make for a good rock guitar + steel guitar amp....

Thoughts?

This is a great and underated amp-maybe due to its weight-call Peavey and see how much they would charge to fix it-send only the head chassis in-that way you will save on labor and freight-they should be able to give you a ballpark estimate-however-you can get one in good condition for about $300.00-you might also want to talk to Ken Fox about it-he repairs amps-he is on the forum and a great guy--

ha, these are great amps and the power if not more (which I think it is) beats a Twin, I have two, one has a Blue Marvel and a Scorpian, the other 2 Black Widows (this is heavier than my Session 500), they both have casters, both cost me $200 each, I was wondering if anyone else had tried one of these older amps, if you want nice tube (hybrid) power and don't need the Fender name, get one, also the tone shaping via the EQ section is more versatile than a Twin in my opinion, I'm still looking for another 12" Blue Marvel to install in place of the Scorpian, but I have to admit between those two different speakers I get a great tone, the amp is still second to my Session 400 though

Nice amp. Worked on one last year in Portland. A fuse, a few transistors in the power amp section and a new set of tubes got it going again. Not my prefereed amp to work on, I like old Fenders! I would send it to Peavey, they are very reasonable and the best at these amps.

I have a hybrid, Peavey Mace. Another killer amp with 160 watts RMS, 6 each 6L6GC tubes and two 12" Black Widows. A true Twin Killer! These amps have their own sort of tone, I like it. They cut thru the mix on stage very well. The Mace was the amp Leonard Skynard group used and still uses. I like its clean tube sound but man it can overdrive, too.
