Hey Gang,

I'm in need of a volume pedal for my Gibson lap steel. I'm leaning toward a Goodrich but I'm wondering whether a low boy or a standard height would be in my best interest. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Seems to me the low boy vs. standard height is of more significance to a pedal steeler with regards to leg postion, knee height etc. as it pertains to the fit of the body to the frame and levers of the guitar. I can't see how it much matters with a lap steel except for comfort. I'm not sure of the difference between the two Goodrich pedals--my standard 120 is around 2 1/2" tall. Find out how much shorter the low boy is, set your foot on books of appropriate height and see what feels good.

Thanks,

I've only used the Ernie Ball volume pedal in the past, and I've been with out one for some years.

I have a dunlop volume pedal that I use once in a great while. I have been playing without one for sometime. It seems to make no difference to me whether I use it or not. I still get great music on the lap.

I have a standard Goodrich volume pedal that I am not using. It is in good working condition and hardly use. Using a Hilton now.
$75 plus S&H. E-mail me if you need to see pictures of it.

The heigth of your seat is probably a little more critical than the heigth of the pedal! Try to find a pedal that does not have too much of an angle from the floor when in the VOL–OFF position! (/= too high!)

I find when playing lap steel with a volume pedal, that I need something under my left foot to equalize the height of my knees. This way the steel can sit flat across them. The briefcase I use to carry my pedal and accessories works quite nicely.

OK,

Could someone please discuss the differences between the Goodrich (L)120 and the (H)L 10K. The latter features an active electronic buffer. Thanks again.
