Got one in mine! Had to move the reverb tank, it's just propped up in the back now, but that amp sounds good!

That's my favorite speaker for steel in a Deluxe Reverb. I've used one off and on for smaller gigs since I started playing pedal steel several years ago. With a tiny bit of compression, I like the clarity of this amp/speaker combination.

Mine is a late 64 or early 65 Blackface. I never had real problems getting mine in, but it is very tight, spacewise. Before install, I pulled both back panels, the chassis, and the reverb tank, but it did just fit [ed. to add: my reverb tank still fits in normal spot]. I think the most likely issue would be the output transformer - an oversized one might clash.

I received my SFDR with an SRO in it. The cab was a repro (Crusty) so I don't know about the fit thing--it was in so it fit. I found the sound kind of full and throaty, not quite what I was seeking. I replaced it with a Weber Cali. But I also did some other work on the amp. I love the sound. But now you've got me wondering, after some of the other stuff I've done to the amp, how it would sound with the SRO. I'll probably have to find out. Besides, who wouldn't want the weight of that speaker to help keep the amp from blowing away in a breeze.

i traded a black face Deluxe Reverb, in at Scotty's about 8 or 10 years ago to Dewitt..it fit perfect...i had the SRO 12 with the big white plastic over the back of the speaker...fits like a glove..but it sure made it heavy..sounded good..sure wish the Peavey i traded it in on sounded as good..oh the mistakes we make.....

I can't quote on the fit, but a Fender with an SRO is a match made in heaven. The EV SRO is to speakers what the Telecaster is to guitars. In short, about all you'd ever need.

I sold all my JBL D120's and D130's, and bought SRO speakers, and I'd do it again.

Yes, they're that good!

Anyone got a front and back photo of an SRO 12 they could post? I had an EV 12" in a Music Man amp but not sure what model it was... don't remember exactly what the SRO's looked like.

I'm reminded of the old Andy Griffith routine
where the customer in the diner complains to
the waitress "There's a lizard in my collards." The waitress says, "Not so loud, everybody'll want one."
You guys have let the cat out of the bag. I've been putting 12" SRO's in my small Fender amps for years. That, coupled with a good tele is the sound. Sometimes I've had
to move the transformer, sometimes not.
My current rig is a Vibrolux with an SRO.
I have been warned you may pick up some hum
with the transformer located so close to that
big magnet, but for me it hasn't been a problem. Fenders are going to hum anyway.
Just play loud!

I'll chime in. I had two SROs in a Standel amp, and it kicked butt! Then one night it was stolen and the next day I got my Session 500, which I still use, but man them SROs kicked butt!

I took everything apart, and got the SRO speaker bolted in place. There was nowhere for the reverb tank to go, and the transformer looked like trouble. So, I backed out and reinstalled the C12N. As a result, there will be a speaker for sale, see my "garage sale" ad posted elsewhere.

Jerry Garcia had SRO's in the Twin Reverb he used for steel back in the New Rider days. I seem to remember them sticking out of the back.

I'm picking up a '79 SF Deluxe Reverb, tomorrow.
It has a green label Kendrick 12" speaker in it.
Anyone ever heard of or have any expierience with these speakers?

This is not the amp I am getting, but is the same year/model: http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-Deluxe-Reverb-Silverface-SUPER-CLEAN_W0QQitemZ7336833666QQcategoryZ38074QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Anyong have any expierience with the "Line/Recording" output(see the pic of the back plate)?

Thx,
Pete B.

Pete - I have a set of Kendrick 10" speakers in my Vibrolux Reverb. I love them, very warm sounding with a Tele. I've played through his 12" speakers also - I liked them, but I believe there were several different models with different sounds. My recollection is that the green label was more of a Celestion sort of sound.

A '79 DR will have the Push/Pull distortion pot (not too useful, IMO), and may not be worth quite as much as earlier SF versions. But I've played many of these, and they sound just fine to me, when set up properly. I've never used the line out on these. I'm pretty sure it taps somewhere in the preamp section, they always sounded tinny to me.

I now have Dennis' EV SRO speaker. For the knowledge base, I note that this speaker is substantially different than my EV SROs. Mine are clearly older, are painted entirely in white, have a narrower magnet assembly, and the orange/silver label says "Model SRO/12". Dennis' has a more modern cast-frame, a wider black magnet assembly with a silver label with black print, which says "Model SRO/12L". It looks like a great speaker for steel, though we'll have to see if it fits in my Deluxe Reverb. If it doesn't, I'm sure I'll find a place for it.

I had a Twin with 2 SRO's in it.
It must have weighed 100lbs...really!
But, the worst thing is, with the power of the Twin, I kept blowing the speakers out.
At the time, they were sold as lifetime guaranteed, so I replaced each one once, then finally sold it.

Tony, I've got a Twin with 2 SRO's in it. The handle is stretched out, the wheels have flat spots on 'em, but the speakers sound fine! I had to take the fins off one of them, to make it fit, but otherwise, it all shoehorned in there. It's a master volume Twin, I play with the master wide open, the channel on "2," and my 6-string barely cracked open---I can't IMAGINE blowing those suckers!

My small room amp is a Silverface Deluxe Reverb with a Twin type output transformer,a beefed up power supply,6L6s,and an old white SRO. Weighs as much as my Twin but takes up a lot less space on stage. Sounds HUGE!!! Works well for doing opening act duties when the Headliner has taken up most of the stage space.
