I bought a used Goodrich 120 volume pedal on the Forum a while back and it came with a clarostat pot. It was said to work great but has a swoosh sound about midway. Could the pot be bad or maybe some other problem? Any help would be appreciated. I have another 120 I've had for 25 years and it doesn't have the problem.

Thanks,
Russ

Russ--take away the pot in a Goodrich 120 and you have....well you don't have anything. It's all in the pot. There are three things that can go wrong with that pedal---the string can slip or be incorrectly installed, resulting in inproper on or off postions in the pedal sweep; the jacks can get dirty resulting in intermittent signal porblems; and the pot can get funky resulting in a consistent, repeatable noisy spot in the sweep.
Looks like you've got a bad pot. There are advocates of spraying inside the pot. People here on the forum have advised to spray non-lubricated contact cleaner, lubricated contact cleaner, WD40, Pam....and unfortunately people have advised against spraying some of these things. So I don't really know what's the best trick.

Thanks Jon,

I figured that there's not much there but the pot. I guess I was just hoping that I didn't have to replace the thing. The pot in my old 120 works great. Any suggestions on a replacement pot?

Thanks,
Russ

Yes Russ; your 25 year old pot was when they were making quality pots then...Clarostat now totally bites. Your 25 year old pot could possibly be the old Allen Bradley(AB 500K typeJ) as those pots were/are awesome> unfortunatly they don't make them anymore(but you can find them on Ebay).
Best new pot being made is the Ohmite and that's pretty much it.
