Anyone out there familiar with Randall steel guitar amps? This one is about the size of Session 400.Also, It has a 15 inch speaker, no name. Rating appears to be 300 Watts. Is this agood amp for Steel?

Thanks, Ron C.

Sounds like a Randall "Steelman". If so, yes, it's a good amp!

I have one of these units, they sound incredible! The speaker should be JBL D-130 unless it has been replaced.

The Randall "Steel Man 500" (SGA500) is a great PSG amp, I installed a 3-spring long-decay reverb tank from Accutronics in mine and I doubt that I'll ever use anything else on stage again. Mine has a JBL 4-ohm E130, which is a bit heavier than the D- or K- series speakers but it works great and, well, it's already paid for!

I did have to fool with the EQ a bit to get the sound I wanted from the old Pro I - ended up dialing the bass, mid and treble each pretty much straight up (those affect the reverb as well) and get the real sound from the graphic EQ that is post-effects and feeds the power amp section directly.

Now all I want is a speaker cabinet to match for my D130.

Changed my life, that little amp has, there's no going back now!

Hi Ronald:

I had one of the first Randall steel guitar amps that was on the market, and I sold it to a friend of mine. My friend still has the amp after 25 years, and it's still working fine.

At the time I had the Randall, and a Vegas 400, and decided to keep the Vegas.

All times are Pacific (US)
