Topic: noise in volume pedal

i am getting a scratchy noise from my goodrich volume pedal , i unplugged my matchbox and ran direct from the steel to the volume pedal and the noise is still there. any ideas ? everytime i move the pedal it sounds scratchy |

Calvin, it sdounds like a dirty pot, or possibly pot going bad.
Try some electtronic cleaner on it see if that helps.

Agree Calvin.... I've had that experience a number of times.... change the pot and it'll clear it up. |

I also have some noise from my Goodrich. I play outdoors a lot (busking) and that might have something to do with it perhaps. I spray a little on the pot but that doesn't seem to do any good. The pot is new and I changed it cause I had this problem. The old pot looked fine too according to the guy who changed it. So lately I've been thinking that maybe it isn't the pot being scratchy. Maybe it is the noise that comes when I flip the pedal back and forth without playing. |

It's the pot, not the mechanical motion. Typical of any pot that is dirty or worn not just volume pedal pots. If cleaning doesn't help it (and many times cleaning is only a temporary fix) then the pot needs to be changed. |

well where can i get a new pot ? or do i need to send it back to goodrich for them to replace it ? |

Nowadays, it’s a Crap~Shoot; regardless of who changes the Pot! It's just as safe for you to change it yourself, although it could cost you for another ‘no good’ pot!------------------

John, a crap shoot is right on those pots!!I put a new one [Canadian made] in my Goodrich L120 about 3 months ago, noticed Friday night it's begining to scratch, and not function properly, But I think I cured the problem,, I have a new Hilton on the way should be here anytime! Boy, I'm watching for a Hilton on Ebay, but even then, the tariff is pretty steep when you're living on $1000 a month SS. The pot I got from Tom Bradshaw cost $25 plus a buck for PayPal -- kinda expensive for a pot, but it was nice -- sealed, bubble wrapped, "one million cycles" it says. And I installed it (described in another post here) and it is totally silent so far.
It's not a hard job if you're into that sort of thing. I ran a fix-it shop down in Belize so it was a piece of cake for me. ------------------

Most of the pots found in volume pedals are sealed. The only way to get contact cleaner in the pot is to remove the pot cover.
If you can afford it now,buying a Hilton pedal will save you money in the long run. It is definitely a wise investment.------------------

The aggrevation of the pot going bad and having to put up with it untill it can be fixed is what gets me. Trouble all ways starts in the middle of a gig, never at home where I've got the parts, and time to fix it!
Oh well I'll quit b@$#%!@#, if I didn't love it so much I'd quit! lol.. |

An electronic pedal, like the Hilton, is worth the price just for the aggrivation a bad pot can cause, let alone it will eventually pay for itself because there is no $25 pot to buy and replace (and no string to break or hassle with).Having been an amp tech, in Nashville, I've changed a lot of volume pedal pots. Even so, it's nice not to have to replace my own anymore. I've had a Hilton for two years. |
