I know that there is a difference in the power supply and the number of 1/4" outputs on version 2, but is there a difference in the basic sound of these two pedals??

I asked and was told "no, there's no difference." I got the LDR-2 (the no wall-wart model). Without this option, the pedal leaves the power cord where it could conceivably be kicked out accidentally.

The downside to the LDR-2 is there's about a gadjillion 9-volt batteries strapped to it -- but they last a LOOOooonnng time.

The LDR has a nylon cord retainer in the back. If you unscrew it and thread the power supply cable through it and then screw it back down and plug in the power supply, you cannot kick the plug out,BUT you cannot unplug the supply when you pack it up without unscrewing the retainer. Seems the better place to have the power supply plug would have been somewhere on either side.

I have an LDR2 wall wart model and am happy to report that the power input is on the side by the phone jacks where it should be.

As for the tonal difference between the LDR and LDR2 I think that they are almost the same. If anything the LDR2 may be a bit sweeter. Jim Palenscar lent me his LDR which I used for a few weeks while mine was on order. (Is this guy cool or what?) When I brought mine home I _thought_ it may _possibly_, be a bit sweeter sounding _perhaps_. Can't say for sure. Furthermore, there are pots on these pedals, and I did not change Jim's or mine or check to see if they were set the same. So, I think it's fair to say that tone is about the same for the LDR and LDR2. But the LDR2, with its power input out of the way, is more pleasant to use.

I moved the power input to the side on my LDR 1. Easy enough for me to do myself , had to sacrife the second output , though. A lot more convenient on the side IMO.

I have an LDR, and I just leave the power supply plugged in and held by the retainer when I pack it up. Hasn't been a problem. My complaint with it is how short the power supply cord is. Makes it a nuisance trying to get the "wart" out from underfoot on stage.
