from Ebay ($400). What would be the best hookup configuration with a Profex 2? Also, though it is a closed back design, there are two port holes through the bottom of the cab. Unusual. The feet raise the cab only about 5/8 inch off the floor. Still, im sure this design has a lot to do with the impressive bottom end. Neverthess I might be tempted to make a lttle reflex box to set the amp on top of and route the air out thruogh, say maybe two or three inches. I got this amp mainly to double on bass but cant wait to see what possibiltie for the P/P are. Boy it sure kicks ass. What a great compact combo amp. |

On second thought, the way the desgn spreads the sound out in all directions through the bottom as it is probably helps to balance out the otherwise directional effect of the closed back system. Might experiment just setting the amp a little higher with spacers or something, especialy outside on a lawn. |

Steven, good thought. I would not alter it. The Databass is a good amp. If it does not work for steel, you can always sell resale it. I would not cut it up.Just my 2 cents.[This message was edited by Curt Langston on 17 June 2006 at 07:22 AM.] |

Good score, Steven, I also own a Databass. 450 watts rms with 7 band eq. It's a hoss! I use mine for bass. I'd use mine for a backup amp on steel if I needed, but I'm a fender twin sort of a guy---love my tube amps! Killer bass amp, though. |

I just take a small piece of wood, or a little stomp box(I have one that's broken) and stick it under the front edge of my Databass, and tip it back a little. Sounds great. |

I had the same idea. I just gigged with it today (bass) outside on a lawn and placed the amp on 3/4 " plywood. The bass response was terrific. Next time I'll try a little tilt.I dont think I ever turned the volume above 1. |

Steven, I may slap my EV 15B (400 watts rms rating) in my Databass and see how it does. Seems the black widow wants to clip pretty early. I may like it more for steel then, too. |

If you do please post how it compares. Do you know what the BW rating is? Its been suggested to replace the 4 ohm BW with an 8 ohm and install a jack and use another 8 ohm ext (1502). But the beauty of the Databass is its compactness and id preffer to keep it that way. |

The 15" speakers are better suited to full-sounding bass lines. If you want to do the high-treble "popping-snapping" bass lines, you're better off with a bunch of 10" speakers. The cones have a lot lower mass, and therefore have a faster, sharper response. |

Steve, The EV 15B sounds tremendous. I had a 1502 BW in the amp, but it never sounded quite right with my steel, sounded a little naseley to me. The EV voices much better. I will gig with it this weekend, so we will see. |

With my Fender squier bass, I like it as well, maybe better, that is, playing it at the house. Also depends on what your bass is and sounds like. I'll know more tomorrow. My amp stayed in the car today, as there was already an amp set up, and the stage was crowded.[This message was edited by James Morehead on 25 June 2006 at 11:22 PM.] |

IMHO, the EV speakers (with the exception of the "Force" series) are some of the best speakers ever made. Since they stopped making musical instrument speakers a few years ago, I expect they will acquire some of that cachet that JBL's have had for so long. If you like 'em, buy 'em now. Prices will soon go up! |

Well, I played a practice tonight, and it sounded the best ever with bass. I like that EV15B.Good advise, Donny, I too, feel these speakers are a real sleeper. Talk about a rugged speaker! |

James, is your EV a 4 0r 8 ohm? Did you notice less tendency to clip? |
