I bought a 1970's Fender Rhodes Piano, and I am looking for a good source to do some minor repair (nothing major), and give it a tune up. Does anyone know a good source near Atlanta, Ga. Thanks, Lefty |

One of the beautiful things about the old Rhodes pianos is they are so simple and you probably would not have much trouble doing repairs/tuning yourself. Tuning is only a question of nudging a little spring along the tyne with a pair needle nose pliers - sounds primitive but that is the nature of the beast (and much lass hassle than the old Wurlitzers). The action is similarly simple and has only a couple of moving parts. I have been able to fix nearly anything on my pianos with a screwdriver, pliers, a good tuner and a soldering iron (and a source of parts). Download a service manual and don't be scared, there is not much to screw up if you are half way mechanical... http://www.fenderrhodes.com/service/manual.php There is also a good simplified discussion in the manual of tuning - the old equal temperment vs 'stretch' tuning or just intonation. These pianos came from the factory tuned to ET but I would be willing to bet Chick Corea didn't leave his that way.[This message was edited by William Steward on 24 June 2006 at 06:36 AM.] [This message was edited by William Steward on 24 June 2006 at 06:37 AM.] |

Thanks William, I have a few notes that are faint in volume compared to the other ones. What things would you recommend checking first? Lefty |
